The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice is one of the best points of interest in La Serenissima. The prominent Grand Canal attraction is one of the most intimate art museums in Europe and contains the vast personal collection of Peggy Guggenheim. The niece of industrialist Solomon R. Guggenheim and wife of artist Max Ernst was a notable patroness of the arts. Visitors to the Guggenheim Venice can get up close and personal with works by Picasso, Pollock, Dalí and Magritte, among others. Perhaps the most famous exhibit however, is Marino Marini’s The Angel of the City, a sculpture in the museum’s entrance.
Vitals and Tips
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a 1.5 km walk from Piazza San Marco.
The museum is in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, Peggy Guggenheim’s former home, and opened a year after her death in 1979.
The museum is closed on Tuesdays and Christmas Day.
