General Information

Italy's Emilia-Romagna region has a wonderful capital in Bologna. The jewel of this part of Northern Italy may be the seaside town of Rimini however. The most attractive resort on the Adriatic Riviera has a history that dates back well over two thousand years, with enough well-preserved architecture to show for it today. From Roman amphitheaters to Gothic cathedrals, Rimini offers up a dizzying array of structural beauty.

The town has never strayed far from humble roots as a fishing village, which imbues it with a certain rustic sensibility. While Rimini is heavily reliant on tourism in the summer season, much of which centers around the lovely Adriatic coast, the overall charm of the town is not lost in the crowds. Even when the sunbathers congregate on the streets around Piazza Cavour after dusk, Rimini still feels like one of the best-kept secrets in Italy. Of course, the fact that mostly Italians frequent the resort town in the summer months may be a factor.

Rimini History

• Tempio Malatesta - The bas-reliefs and frescos are the main attractions at this Renaissance era temple.
• Arco D’Agusto - This is one of the oldest remaining Roman arches in the world and is a great example of ancient Italian architecture.
• Piazza Cavour - A statue of Pope John Paul stands in the centre of this plaza, which is surrounded by historic buildings.
