Matera Climate
The temperatures of the Matera area are a little lower than in other regions; however, in the months of July and August, the temperatures reach about 25°C. In winter, the Basilicata region is actually one of the coolest in Italy, and snow falls occasionally.
Getting There & Around
Reaching Matera is easily done by taking flights into Bari, and then riding a train from there into the town. A hired car can also be useful in the area, but there is public transport through buses.
In and around town, most visitors will find walking to be a good way to get from one place to another, especially in the old town area. But, to fully explore the region, a hired car is best.
