Germans and Austrians love to holiday at Garda Lake for many reasons. This Italian hamlet is a perfect spot for water sports and sunbathing, and it also offers visitors a sample of Italy’s rich culture and Mediterranean charm. The town of Malcesineis popular among sightseers for the Castello Scaligero, the family seat of the della Scala nobility who ruled Verona in medieval times. You can also take a cable car ride to the peak of Monte Baldo.Torbole is a more modern resort town in Garda Lake, offering several dining, shopping and entertainment options for tourists. If you want to try kite-surfing or windsurfing during your stay at Garda Lake, head over to Windriders in Limone sul Garda for a class. Those who enjoy historical sites must visit Il Vittoriale, the beautiful estate of the late Italian writer Gabriele d'Annunzio. The ancient ruins at Grotte di Catullo are also worth a few hours of your time. If you need a bit of pampering during your Garda Lakeholiday, look no further than the indulgent treatments at the Mind Body Centre in Salo.
When To Go
Although Garda Lake has four seasons, the weather stays pleasant most of the year. Summer, the driest and hottest season, is the best time to visit Garda Lake. The water is at its warmest in August, when many European tourists enjoy the beaches. The early fall is lovely, with rain picking up a bit in October. November, the wettest month, has about 10 cm (4 inches) of rainfall. Late spring brings 8-9 cm (3 inches) of rain per month, peaking in April. Summer highs can reach 26-27°C (79-80°F), but the Mediterranean breeze keeps this area comfortable even in high summer. The winter lows can drop to 5-6°C (41-42°F), although freezing temperatures are very rare in Garda Lake.

Getting There
Air travellers fly into Verona (Valerio Catullo) Airport, which is 15 km (9 miles) from Garda Lake, and take a shuttle bus operated by the Verona Porta Nuova train station for the rest of the journey. This same train station offers rail service to cities across Italy. There are also regional buses offering trips from Verona, Milan and Venice to Garda Lake. If you drive to Garda Lake, take the A4 from Milan or Venice and either the Peschiera del Garda, Desenzano del Garda or Sirmione exits. If you are coming from Modena or Brennero, use the A22 and the Affi/Lago di Garda sud or Rovereto sud exits. If you choose to drive, be aware that traffic can be congested and, to some, quite aggressive.
