Telling Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is Israel’s capital. But how many capital cities (and business centres) do you know where it always feel like it’s Saturday? In fact, it’s almost like Tel Aviv is suffering from a massive case of ADD and someone has hidden the Ritalin. And we mean that in the best possible way, because Tel Aviv is always buzzing, always throwing out something to do and always, always, always up for a party.
In terms of vibe, Tel Aviv is the polar opposite to the seriously significant – and significantly serious – Jerusalem. While there are fantastic religious sites to visit, there’s also the chance to chill out on the coastline, go off your (shopping) trolley in the Camel Market, Flea Market or the Nahalat Binyamin Pedestrian Mall, or spend time in trendy bars like Shesek, where the beer flows and the beautiful people play…
TEL AVIV’S TOP 10
10. Almonit (Anonymous) Alley Sounds like a beat, but it’s not. That could be an awkward mistake… |
5. Azriely Lookout Best views of the city. Seriously. |
9. Tel Aviv Museum of Art The biggest collection of art in the city and definitely worth an afternoon’s browsing. |
4. Rabin Square Named for the prime minister assassinated here in 1995. Kind of spooky. |
8. Neve Tzedek Take a stroll around the old part of town and discover art galleries and cafés. |
3. Old Jaffa Be careful, this is where the Bible tells us Jonah boarded a ship and was swallowed by a big fish! |
7. Joshua Gardens Tel Aviv’s answer to Central Park, only without the celebs and camera crews. |
2. Nahum Goldman Museum of the Jewish Diaspora If you practise saying the name for too long you won’t have time to see the films! |
6. Rothschild Blvd Stroll around for free or pay a small fee to see where the 1948 Declaration of Independence was signed. |
1. Bauhaus Centre Check out all the artefacts and then join the city tours each Friday. |
TEL AVIV EVENTS

Twice a year, Tel Aviv gets all dolled up to celebrate the Tel Aviv Fashion Market. Top designers show off their latest trends.
Night Flea sounds like something you don’t want in your bed, but it’s actually a festival in Jaffa each August. Flea markets are open all night and there’s a range of shows, exhibitions and performances.
