Cobh

Cobh is the charming seaside town nestled on Great Island Hill within the Cork County of Ireland. Formerly known as Queenstown, the town boasts breathtaking surroundings and a rich history. From 1848 to 1950, the town was a departure spot for more than two million Irish people who decided to immigrate to North America. This historic town is also where survivors of the sunken RMS Lusitania sought refuge. Around town, visitors will see several buildings exemplifying the Victorian architecture. Cobh is also home to the 49-bell Carillon, the largest instrument of its kind in Ireland. ... Read more »

Cobh Top 3

  • Take the Titanic Trail walking tour that features the final day of anchorage for the RMS Titanic. Cobh was final port of call for the famous ship before it sank in the North Atlantic Ocean.
  • Visit the Queenstown Story of the Cobh Heritage Centre of Cork County, situated in the old Victorian Railway station near the town centre and chronicles the story of the largest emigration from Ireland because of famine and disease.
  • Drop by Cobh St Colman's Cathedral, a neo-Gothic masterpiece considered one of the tallest buildings in Ireland.

Getting There

Cobh is one of the towns outside the Dublin metropolitan area that serviced by the commuter train. From Dublin, visitors can take the Dublin-Cork main railway line ending at Kent railway station. From this station, a suburban rail service leaves every hour to the coastal town. The nearest airport to Cobh is the Cork Airport, and it is about a 30 minute drive to the town on the N25 road or R624 road. Visitors from the airport, who do not want to stop by Cork City, can arrange a private transport to reach the seaside town directly.
