I booked this hotel for my girlfriends birthday, expecting 5* luxury, 5* service and 5* food. Instead my girlfriend ended up getting food poisoning from the hotel food (the only food we had eaten), falling unconscious having a seizure and requiring hospitalisation and intravenous antibiotic administration. The staff were unhelpful and unconcerned by our plight and even had the audacity to charge us for the emergency call. The hospital bill came to over $3000, so don’t forget to factor that into your room rate! In my opinion this hotel is running on its location, I would not eat here. Unfortunately there is little else in the area so a trip to Hanoi centre would be required. You would get a much better hotel at a much better rate in the city.

Worth the extra $ to get a lake view though we didnt get a sunset view (i stayed in room 835).. I experienced no mosquitoes during my stay unlike other guests, but that could be because i went during late winter.. Lake view rooms are understandably furthest from the main lobby but you can always call for a buggy to fetch you around, otherwise its only a 5min walk.. It about a 5-7 min taxi ride out to old quarter (or abt US$5) where all the happening places are, but there's always a taxi waiting in the lobby to pick up guests & if you get a legitmate licensed taxi you shouldn't get ripped off.. Not all the taxi drivers know where intercontinental is though, so make sure you check before boarding the cab otherwise you'll be going round in circles unless you can direct the taxi-driver right to the hotel doorstep.. Concierge staff were very helpful & were willing to do almost anything for us! Only funny thing was, there was no safe in the room where we could lock up our valuables..

If you want to stay away from the crowds and noise, this is the place. Private, exclusive and tranquil setting.stayed on the upper floor with a fantastic view of Westlake.

best experience: the hotel staff find ways to get us 2 english speaking motorbike drivers we requested, to take us to the streets of Hanoi.... and got us everything that we need and more in less than 5 hours.
