Our stay was from 24th December-2nd January, 2013, just after the cyclone and apart from a few trees down and some missing roof tiles, you wouldnt even know that there had been a cyclone. We booked a one bedroom club suite and on arrival were upgraded to a suite with a private plunge pool. The experience started with a pleasant surprise and it just got better. We were tossing up whether to book a beachfront or the Club and thankfully we decided to book Club. I can imagine that the general resort would get pretty hectic for those of us who don't particularly want to spend every waking hour with kids under their feet. The infinity pool in the main section of the resort is adults only and perfectly placed for you to soak up the sun, breezes and spectacular views out to the ocean. The rooms were spacious, clean, cool, modern and well maintained. Our balcony (ground floor# was very private and included the famous cleopatra bath and a really comfy day bed. This balcony then lead straight to the plunge pool and beyond to a private yard with our own sun lounges. The Club rooms are at the top of the hill, but there was never a time when we felt disadvantaged by this as it only took a phone call to organise a driver/buggy to take you wherever you wanted to go. The wait for a buggy was only a couple of minutes even at busy times. So many of the staff deserve special mention, in fact all of them went out of their way to make us feel special and spoilt! #Finau, Anare, Api, Jordon - you guys are the best!# Between 5.30-7.30pm each night there is happy hour in the Club which includes delicious canapes delivered to your table and a big variety of yummy cocktails, beers, wines and spirits. The staff make this time a lot of fun! I saw a couple of disgustingly rude guests get angry that their kids couldnt attend the Club during this time, but to the credit of the staff they stood their ground and kept it kid-free! #even though they were being abused by these horrible people who couldnt get their noisy kids in to annoy the rest of us!# The Club includes a bar, conference room, infinity pool, breakfast and lunch restaurant and offers a spot to get away from it all. The location of the hotel on the beach is spectacular, particularly with the lagoon that runs down the side of the resort. My only gripe was that there is nothing close by #such as local restaurants, shops etc#. This meant that all of our eating and drinking was done at the hotel. In saying this, the food quality was very high and faultless. Navo Restaurant is as good as every positive review I read about it. We went there many times for breakfast and dinner and the only negative we had was when a young couple started harassing the staff to get permission to bring their child in for dinner #why don't parents understand that not everyone wants to be around their kids???# Other dining options include a casual dining spot #Toba Bar and Grill#, and the main buffet restaurant #Sanasana#. We hired a car from the rental office at the hotel and took some time to drive out to Sigatoka one day and Nadi the next. It was very safe and lots of fun to do it in our time. It cost us about $140 for car hire from midday one day to midday the next. We also took a day trip into Port Denarau to board a sailing boat out to the island where Castaway #Tom Hanks# was made. Words can't describe the beauty of this area #even after the cyclone# - the water is so blue and clear - snorkelling was awesome. The trip normally includes a village tour however the cyclone had disrupted this plan so we went to an extra snorkelling spot off a sand cay near Mana Island #WOW!) One other thing I've brought back with me is the recipe for Fijian Kokoda - an amazing tasty dish that includes fish, coconut and spices. Very easy to make and YUM! We are not usually ones to re-visit a holiday destination but after experiencing the beautiful nature of the Fijian people and the stunningly beautiful waters, we may head back there again o
