Magelang is a city located in Central Java in Indonesia. This lush and green city is bordered on the west by the Progo River and on the east by the Elo River. Magelang has had a rich history, having served as the seat of government during British rule and as an economic centre under the Dutch. For history buffs, there are several museums showcasing these colonial times, including the Museum Pangeran Diponegoro, the National Military Academy and the Taruna Nusantara military school. If exploring the past isn’t enough for you, there are volcanoes and mountains nearby, as well as your fill of temples, shopping, dining, sports activities and parks.

Visitors interested in seeing temples shouldn’t miss the Buddhist Borobudur Temple or the Canggal Temple. By air, visitors to Magelang can fly into one of three nearby airports, the Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, Adisumarmo International Airport in Surakarta, or Achmad Yani International Airport in Semarang. Bus, car or taxi can take you from these airports to your destination in Magelang in about an hour. Travellers find it especially easy to get to and from the Adisucipto International Airport using the DAMRI special bus. Travelling around in Magelang is easy by way of cars, motorcycles, buses, paddy cabs, becak and bicycles.
