Indian Ocean Hotel Perth Guest Reviews
This hotel should not gain any stars. We booked a $125 per night 3 star room. When we arrived our room was so awful that we tried to cancel our booking. This was because the room had no soap, was old, extremely dirty, aircon so rusted it looked like it would fall off the wall & so loud that one could not carry on a conversation or watch tv. The doona cover was filthy. When the hotel refused a 100% refund after only 30 minutes in the room we were required to pay extra for any upgrade. The only acceptable room was $60 per night for an upgrade. That made the upgraded room $185 per night. We declined the continental breakfast because we are gluten free and they did not cater for that. They reduced the price to $55 extra per night. The duty manager was trying to conduct the electrical repair in the upgraded room. He did not succeed & we had no overhead lights in the kitchenette. The toilet was broken. The floor was repaired in such a way that it pinched one's foot as one walked on it. The repaired area was beside the bed so could not be avoided. On Christmas Day and Boxing Day the room was not cleaned at all. So that was 50% of our stay. The kitchen was closed on those days, although this did not bother us. The staff came and offered new towels on Boxing Day. There was no iron or ironing board in the room. These had to be requested and returned to reception and were old and dirty. The room was meant to be self contained but had no dinner sized plates and we had to request dishwashing liquid and clean dishcloths. The door in the shower opened in making entry and exit from the shower complicated. The pool and pool area was filthy and we did not use the pool for that reason. When we tried to discuss the poor state of the upgraded room the reception staff became very defensive. The hotel runs a very noisy bar and unsavoury characters share the entrance area with guests. On our return one night the police were discussing a previous guest with the staff. This did not inspire confidence in the hotel's security. The staff told us the hotel is 3.5 stars. We have never had these experiences in a 3.5 star hotel before.

An older hotel but very clean, with friendly service. Includes a continental buffet breakfast which makes it extremely good value for money. Would definately stay there again.
