Ibis Styles Kingsgate Hotel
2 out of 5

One booking for two rooms however upon arrival only one room reserved. When I asked to have both rooms located together I was told this would not be possible and that they would be on different floors. Apparently this was because I hadn't specified that they be located together despite being a single booking for two rooms for people with the same family name... nothing to do with their booking mistake apparently. The reception staff offered a complimentary upgrade - which was an absolute lie - the supposedly upgraded room was smaller and in greater disrepair than the standard room (and that was pretty rubbish). Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. Staff dishonest and surly, rooms tired and noisy, worst hotel I've ever stayed in I definitely do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was shocked at how much this hotel resembles a backpackers hotel. The rooms are small with very little natural light and extremely basic. The bathroom was dirty and pokey. The worst part was that I paid what I consider to be a lot of money for the room. My advise - don't be fooled by the photos....

Room was clean and very basic with definately no view. I requested a chair which was willingly provided. Staff were helpful and friendly.

It was cheap and ok but there was no bedlamp which I found very disconcerting.

We needed an economical stay in Melbourne for one night that was handy for the CBD. This worked very well.

The bathroom was freezing as the window had glass slats and each panel had a gap so the cold air came in. No heater in the bathroom. The battery in the remote control was flat so we were unable to change channels or switch the TV off with the remote. We reported this to staff but they were not interested.

The building is quite old and a bit tired. The walls are not soundproof at all and you can hear lots of noise from airconditioners and traffic. It is well located being close to Southern Cross station and a short walk to the mall. Many trams run close by. The staff at checkin are very good and the free continental breakfast is good. I only sayed 2 nights and they forgot to clean my room or change towels etc.

It's an older style hotel that's been done up,in some areas are done better than others,eg crazy paint choices in the rooms. The shower cubical could do with a make-over,(in the room we were in anyway) Overall it was a pleasant hotel to stay, with a cafe/restaurant where you can enjoy a quick breakie or a meal. Staff where very helpful & friendly.

Average- bathroom door hanging off- so much dust on the walls in the room and bathroom -small and pokey room, but you get what you pay for.bed comfortable if your not against the wall side. (no room to stretch out) concrete pillar at the bottom of the bed, in the way!!!

The hotel is fine but the noise from the night clubs is unbearable. Also air conditioner was not working and in summer it made it pretty uncomfortable.

We found the location of the hotel is great because is close to all amenities, including public transport. However not happy with the rooms, way too small, uncomfortable, window overlooking a big wall, feel like you are in a cell, bedding, bathroom and facilities very basic, we prefer a bit of more comfort. Breakfast was ok, although not superb, but enough to keep us going through the day, would recommend the hotel but only for a short stay.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Sat night was a little noisy with music from a pub, but didn't go too late. So not a big problem.
