Iberostar Rose Hall Suites All Inclusive Montego Bay Guest Reviews

5 out of 5

I enjoyed this hotel immensely. I picked it because of the good reviews. The place did not disappoint at all. I would recommend this hotel to people that love to be spoiled and enjoy good food. The staff was friendly, the food was fantastic. The Christmas gala was gorgeous, ice sculptures, food that was great. We enjoyed this hotel a lot and wish that we could stay longer. You will not be disappointed at all if you choose this hotel.

The Iberostar staff and particualarly entertainment staff are fabulous. Our room was very nice with good view. The pool is beautiful and kids enjoyed pool games and activities. The food and drinks are abundant and fresh. Reservations at restaurants are difficult to get so better to book prior to arrival. The beach is beautiful. Only disapppointment was the short length of beach. You are locked into expanse of resort which is a couple blocks. This vacation experience is like being on a cruise ship that is docked.

My fiance and I just got back from 6 days at this resort which I'd chosen above others almost solely on the basis of the stellar reviews I'd read. I don't know where the other travelers have stayed in the past, but this hotel was only OK at best. I've stayed at Dreams and Excellence resorts and both were phenomenal. Iberostar Rose Hall Suites had beautiful rooms and grounds, and is right on the beach so patrons have their choice of the lazy river, infinity pool, activities pool or the ocean to get their relaxation. The infinity pool has the swim up bar in it which also has walk-up access from the beach. The food/restaurant system is my biggest complaint. The food was at the restaurants only ok at best. The most delicious food we had the whole time was on Thursday when they host an authentic Jamaican BBQ on the beach (occurs Mon/Thurs). The jerk chicken, steak and pork at this event were delicious. All of the restaurants offer limited menus, which is typical of AI resorts, but most have a buffet for appetizers and dinner and the buffets are not refreshed between seatings so the pickings are slim if you're a later seating. This brings me to my biggest complaint. They have designated seating times at all restaurants and they recommend that you book your reservations upon your arrival. We stayed 6 days/5 nights so we only had 3 "guaranteed" reservations. Luckily the first few days the resort seemed fairly empty (despite the front desk telling us they were full) so we made same day reservations (which don't count toward your guaranteed quota) for the first 2 nights. We booked one dinner at the steakhouse for 8:30 because all other times were booked. Upon our arrival at 8:15, we saw a half empty restaurant and were told to go to the bar and wait for our table because we couldn't be seated yet. At 8:30 when we went back to the Maitre D stand, there were 4-5 other groups on line and one other couple coming from the bar who arrived a minute after we did. We were seated AFTER all of the other people who'd just arrived. Another instance, we had a 9 pm reservation, again arrived at 8:50 or so and were told to wait on the terrace until 9 to be seated and then were greeted by a near empty restaurant when we were seated. Also, many all inclusives let you order all the food you want - not here. Only if the appetizers or dessert were buffet was this allowed. If appetizers were on the menu, you only got 1 per person and the portions were small. Also, while the Suites hotel has access to the Beach hotel restaurants, they only allow the Suites a limited number of reservations. We arrived on Tuesday and tried to make reservations at the Hibachi restaurant at the Beach Hotel and it was fully booked for the week already. I don't know if it's possible, but if you can, call ahead and reserve at that restaurant if you really wanted to go there. For lunch, there is only a buffet available and then there are "snacks" for the hours between lunch and dinner which consist of whatever's left over from the lunch buffet at that restaurant. The people who worked at the resort fantastic and very friendly. I have no complaints about the staff - from the front desk to the janitorial staff everyone greeted us with a smile. The entertainment was very good. We attended a few shows and really enjoyed ourselves each night. The Ideal Couple night was hysterical and we both were laughing the entire time. There is a free shuttle to/from the resort to the Rose Hall Shopping Center which is 95% jewelry stores, but all are willing to negotiate A LOT so you can get some good deals. We picked up matching Movado watches for a steal. Overall 3/5 stars for the resort and I will likely not stay at an Iberostar in the future.

This is the 2nd Iberostar we have stayed at, the other being in Punta Cana. You can't go wrong and it is a great value. Food was excellent at the specialty restaurants and buffets. Staff was friendly and proactive. Our beds were super-comfortable. The room and the whole hotel was very clean - you always saw staff making the property as nice as possible. I would recommend our Suites hotel over the Rose Beach from what we saw. The beach was terrific, and much better than the Palladium where we stayed in 2009.We could not get a look at the Grand. The only 2 negatives: the spa's facilities were impressive but disappointing to use. Temperatures were way below what was stated and the steam/eucalyptus room was usually not working. The other thing was that they said if you were more than 15" late for your reservation at an a la cate restaurant, the reservation would be cancelled. I can see how this is necessary during a super-busy season, but sometimes the restaurants were not nearly full and one night we would have tried the Cajun instead of doing Mexican for the 2nd time, but were afraid to wait at the Cajun and lose our spot at the Mexican. They should tell you the truth about how busy the restaurant is at the time you are hoping to show up and get a table.
