Hyatt Regency Kolkata

An amazing experience at this Hotel, this was my first time in India and as soon as I got of the plane in Kolkata I was in a little shock at how chaotic the city was. Once we had arrived at the hotel, about 30 mins drive from the airport, I was amazed at how calming the hotel was. Check in was smooth and pain free and our bags were taken to our rooms for us. WiFi costs extra and is charged per hour or day, WiFi should always be free in my opinion but this is the only negative point. The rooms were amazing, very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was something else, it was opulent and the rain shower was out of this world. Once you are in the hotel, you could be anywhere in the world, it is hard to tell you are in Kolkata as you are sheltered from the noise. The hotel has a large swimming pool which is set againt a large green area which has sun loungers and seating, the outside area was beautifully kept and a pleasure to spend time in. The hotel has 3 restaurants, I did not manage to try them all out but the waterside cafe was really good for breakfast and dinner. They do a buffet, and it is ridiculously good! They have so much choice on offer (Indian/English/Continental and more) and they will also cook things to request, if I stayed here for more than a few days I would get seriously fat! You should take into account that they add VAT and service tax on top of whatever the cost on the menu and this isn't cheap but it also isn't expensive given the quality you are getting. Staff at the hotel were great, they all speak English and with a little patience there were no issues. They are super attentive, almost to a fault! I used the concierge service to book us a city tour, this was really good and our driver was excellent, he drove us around all the tourist spots in a calm manner that felt safe (If you have been to Kolkata you will know how crazy the roads are). They also arranged to take us to the airport, the charges for the tour and transport were all very reasonable given the quality and service. There is a modern shopping mall about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, this has plenty of restaurants, clothes shops, and a cinema. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, if you are the type of person that loves the city but needs to get away from the madness and unwind at time then this is the place for you, an absolute haven in Kolkata.
