The front desk was very nice and quick. Our room seemed older and was amongst construction but for the most part that wasn't a problem. We had a GREAT view, two windows, a huge bathroom and a lot of space. The only draw back was the pillows (if you an bring your own) and the early construction in the room next to us (which is only the case for a few rooms) overall it was close to a lot of great stuff and way better than I expected from one of Manhattans cheapest hotels

My husband was right with the loud maid service. The mgmt might need to retrain them. Other than that, I will recommend it for ppl who are not expecting Sheraton in Wall Street.

I was there for a night with my wife. Our purpose we to tour just around the area, downtown, uptown and mid town. I tell ya, Hotel Penn was right in the middle! It's right in front of Madison Square Garden, and a heck close to Empire State Building! We r very satisfied for our purpose. The room we lodged in was descent. It was clean, the amenities or utilities worked. The one thing I suggest is the mgmt to get the maid service to be professional. I mean, these individuals talk loudly right in front of guests' rooms that I wonder if they ever realize there could be tired tourists still sleeping at 9am. We wil return for a longer stay.

It took too long to check in and check out. The place is dirty, dingy, rusty tub , towels look not fresh very old, curtains is as old as the hotel, the tub is rusty, and front desk some have bad attitude and not friendly. They need to paint this hotel and get some new towels since they only give a shampoo and a bar of soap. For 182.00 dollars I get complimentary breakfast at clarion park ave for 139.00

If you are looking at just a place to sleep with high accessibility - this is the right place for you. Room looks really tired and small for american standards. Location is fantastic with subways, LIRR around the corner and couple of streets down brings you to the Glitzy Times Square and other neighbouring attractions.

This hotel (as I'm sure many hotels in NYC) was just non-stop busy! With that said, it's not sparkling clean but livable. It's DIRECTLY across from Penn Station so the location cannot get any closer to the train (which is how I arrived). I was a bit upset with the check in process: we (Mom & I) got there at 1pm (but was turned away from checking in since our room wasn't ready - understandable), then during the 2nd round of waiting in line to check in, the reception man assigned us to a room with a double bed when we paid for a king-size bed. Uh-uh, that ain't happenin'! So after going all the way up to the 13th floor, I had to CUT back in line to get it straightened out (puh-leeze). After that check in process, everything else went smoothly. We did need to request a few more pillows & it would have been better if there were more than 2 towels for us in the bathroom but it was managable. Due to its convenience, I would DEFINITELY stay here next time I'm in NYC!!

From Check-in to check-out, whatever poor hotel experience one could have, I had. Staff unfriendly and outright rude. Condition of room was absolutely the worst I have ever seen. Broken door lock, loose electrical outlet plate, Houseman walked in on me while I napped, scalded by shower, bottle cap on floor by bed from previous guest, peeling paint, old bare carpet, obvious missing painting from wall, HVAC unit black with soot, no clock radio, and when reported to front desk, nothing was offered or done other than that they have heard it before.......I took pictures.

Hotel location is perfect for New York. Only a 10 minute walk from times square, right across the road from penn station so it is just perfect in terms of getting to all the major places. Hotel room was grand, a bit of a draft coming from the window but the beds were very comfy and the room was cleaned daily so no complaints!

We flew into Newark and the train took us to across the street from the hotel. Looking up 7th Avenue we could see Macy's and the lights of Times Square. 10 minutes walk across town and we were outside the Empire State Building. You can get the subway or bus less than a block away which will take you downtown to the 9/11 Memorial or uptown to Central Park and the museums. No need to wait for a taxi after a basketball game at Madison Square Gardens- it's next to the train station! This is the second time I've stayed here and recommend it to anyone who asks.

The best part of the hotel was definitely the location. Times Square is really close. The hotel lobby is really nice, but the rooms are really old. They are very spacious though.

The Pennsylvania Hotel is historic but in need of repair. The hot water was great, but the waiting time to check in was about 40 minutes. It has a good location and a grand foyer but is not for the fussy traveler.

We booked a superior, non smoking, with late hold. we spent our first night in a smoking room, no iron, hair dryer, dingy carpet, peeling walls, cover half off of antique rusty a/c, hard cheap bed. We called front desk and they said we would have to spend the night there and they would upgrade us in the morning. 'Upgrade' was a non smoking similar dump with iron and hair dryer. a cheap motel 6 room is far superior. Resturant was nice.

Stayed for the second time at Hotel Pennsylvania in December 2011. Although a basic hotel by American standards it is the equivalent to UK hotel chains. Room is clean, immediate hot water in the bath room, tv works and staff are extremely helpful letting you check in early and bringing extra towels/ pillows to the room as needed. Pay slightly more for the executive room which includes a fridge where you can chill water. The executive package also allow you access to the lounge where there is free tea and coffee and internet access 24 hours per day. The executive package also provides a free breakfast consisting of bagels, cream chesse, croissants , muffins and fruit juice each morning between 7 and 10 a.m. Location is good, if you like to walk it's about a similar distance to both uptown and downtown. Coaches for Atlantic City, outlet shops and other locations pick up from the side of the hotel. I will stay at the hotel on my next trip to New York.
