Nice location but room had a musty dusty smell. Had to be transferred to a new room because first room had no working heater. If you need to park, do not use their valet service. Park on the street which is limited to 2 hours during the day or free overnight after 6pm or park in the Japan Center parking for $19 or so a night. It's safer and indoors and secured. This location is safer than closer to the Civic Center. However, I would rather pay a little more and stay at the hotel connected with Japan Center. It is a much nicer hotel.

Between Castro and Fisherman's Wharf, a great location. Like a trip back in time... Antique furnishings, elegant decor, a true classic. We felt like early 1900s glamour!

The hotel is in a need of updating. Other then that the rooms are clean, service is friendly, and location although a little farther from the main attractions is not bad. It is much closer than it appears at first.

It was a nice, safe hotel. I think you pay more for the historical factor.

The hotel is a older hotel, so do not expect many modern amenities. The rooms are decorated in the period fashion, but do have nice TVs. The bathrooms are clean, but have almost no counter space and the sink and bath valves work funny. In my opinion more modern bathrooms do not distract from the ambiance of the place. The people were very nice and mostly helpful. Our TV did not work and there were lights that were out. We asked them to fix these things and they did fix the TV, but not the lights.

Arrived in the middle of the night and was greeted by a very helpful staff. Consideration and politeness was the theme of the customer service throughout the three night stay. The quaint atmosphere was a refreshing change. The lack of banging doors and noise from external sources of running water and flushing toilets, maid service, etc., was noteworthy. The maid service was friendly and english proficient. The restaurant and bar employees were focused on customer service and well informed of the menu. All aspects of the stay were pleasurable and this is a hotel and staff who remember and practice excellent customer service.

Charming, elegant decor, a true feel of old San Francisco--but it was the staff in the restaurant at breakfast that made our stay. Also, we misplaced a very valuable pendant and the maid discovered it under the wardrobe and placed it right where we would find it. Truly a classy place to stay.

My girlfriend and I were very pleased with Hotel Majestic. Aside from being the oldest continually operating hotel in San Francisco, it also offers a courteous staff, central location, and a safe area in North Pacific Heigts just blocks east of Japantown. It is also easy to access by car b/c of it's close proximity to a major road, Van Ness Ave. If you are looking for a true, classic San Francisco hotel with a long history then this is a great option to consider. -Pleased guest of Hotel Majestic

Charming, very old hotel but well preserved and decorated (fire of 1906 that destroyed most of San Francisco just stopped short of hotel by 2 blocks). Very small room with Napoleonic canopy bed. No air conditioning. Room clean. Centrally located in San Francisco but not immediately located to any one sight seeing area. Mediocre restaurant and bar in hotel. Great budget rate. Room was used just to sleep in at end of cool June while touring San Francisco and area. It was perfect for our needs.

We were delighted with Hotel Majestic. It has turn-of-the-century charm, friendly staff, and a convenient location near the symphony and opera. The room, while small, was comfortable and attractive. We loved the beautiful staircase with leaded windows and the marbled entry way. We will stay there again.

Stayed at the Majestic for a business/fun trip in SFO. The staff at the hotel were great and went out of their way to be helpful. The rooms are small (this is an old hotel) but they are clean and well furnished, more than adequate for the value. The bathroom in our room was recently remodeled with an awesome "sunflower" shower head. As others have stated the T.V. was ancient but they were in the process of upgrading to flat screen televisions when we were checking out. I was participating in a convention at the Hilton, which I walked to from the hotel. I'd say the Majestic is in a much better neighborhood (felt safer). Several good sushi restaurants within walking distance along with other restaurants and bars.

We were coming to the city for Fathers Day and wanted a nice place to stay that was actually in the city. We got a great deal and could not have asked for a better hotel. It was beautiful, in a great location and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating. Walking distance to great shopping and food, and a cheap cab ride to just about anywhere in the city. The room was on the small side, but beautifully decorated, cozy and CLEAN. There is a restaurant in the hotel where we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast before we checked out. There is a bar as well, but we didn't have a chance to go in. I would definitely stay at the Majestic again!

great location, good bargain, old style, charming and with character. did not miss a new hotel at all and regretted leaving. in fact, when our 4 days were up and we couldn't re-book at the Majestic, we took off for an inn in Monterey. No A/C but the windows open and a fan made it just fine especially for the cool early June weather. the Staff were helpful and did whatever we asked. know that it is a little worn but still lovely.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and found it to be quite charming.Sight seeing all day I was not in the room much but beds were comfortable and rooms were cute. The location was fine because we did drive to everything we saw,so I'm not sure how close public transportation was. I do however wish they would have stated it would be 25.00 dollars a night to park in their protected facility. If not you must find a parking spot on the street which is almost impossible and includes many restictions and lots of signage. I assumed I had paid for my hotel stay and this was an extra charge I was not ready for.

if you love old interesting homely buildings then this is the place for you but if you like modern clean lines forget it !!!!!! the staff are lovely helpful on things to do and see a couple of things though to be aware of , we had a standard queen room and the bathroom had no form of ventilation or fan so was a bit of a problem after a good night out of food and wine ( no more information needed i hope !!) also no in room coffee / tea making or bar fridge , the restaurant is only open for breakfast Saturdays and Sundays so in the week had to walk a block and a half to a cafe to have breakfast ,it is open most evenings for dinner and the food was great, i dont think i would stay again as i do like to wake up to a coffee and have early breakfast then return to room to get ready for the day but with no in house breakfast felt needed to get ready before going to cafe so was up a hour or so before the morning pick me up was available !!!!!!
