The Kathmandu View Hotel is located in the heart of the Thamel District, which is convenient, but also why you might be kept up at night by quite a bit of noise, especially from bars etc. The pictures are obviously taken of the two nicest rooms, which you are unlikely to receive. The bedding was clean, but the place overall has a very worn down feeling. I don't hate this place, and the staff were friendly, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend this to anyone except as a last resort.

First of all, nobody bothered to contact us that the hotel had moved location. When we finally found the hotel, after going round and round Thamel and being stuck in traffic, the operator was less than apologetic. Just a shrug of the shoulders, saying it was hotel club's error. Okay fine, it could have easily been an oversight, so it didn't bother us that much. When we got to the room, it was another matter altogether. Carpet was torn and badly stained. The toilet bowl looked like hadn't been washed for some time. Spider web decorated the window grills. And, despite being named Kathmandu View, all we got at the balcony was a direct view into somebody's bedroom. Still, we were ready to overlook all that cause we knew going in, it was a budget hotel. Later, however, it proved too much to bear; we were given one towel when we booked for 3 persons (the reason given by the operator was that it was Diwali hence there's no towel!) AND when we got back to our room later that evening, there were cockroaches crawling out of the cracked tiles in the bathroom, out of the cupboard, and we also found one beneath the sheets! We decided to check out and find another hotel. We did inform the operator, but again he couldn't care less. He wasn't the least bit apologetic and didn't even offer us a change of room! We're happy we managed to find another room for the night even though it was nearing 11.00 p.m. But it was a thoroughly unpleasant experience, so travelers be warned, stay away from Hotel Kathmandu View!
