Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne
4 out of 5

Location was prime for our needs, easy walking to trams theatres and restaurants. Room quite noisy with loud ventilation in bathroom going 24/7 and disturbing. Restaurant average, breakfast ordinary.

Stayed for one night for business. Room was clean and comfortable and nice soft mattress. Went for a swim in the lovely pool in the morning on a beautiful day. Check-in and out very smooth - no fuss - no problems. Breakfast buffet basic but OK.

The WORST hotel I have stayed in - dirty, tiny, very very very tired and unkempt, rude staff... Just dont go there! your money is better spent somewhere else

* Great location. Can walk almost anywhere from here or not too far to free City Link tram. * We didn't eat at the restaurant as there are so many eating places nearby so can't comment on restaurant but it looked nice. * 1 hour free internet per day on 256k link - enough to check emails and some Facebook but can't link 2 devices and it also got the hour wrong when I tried to log in a second time. You get more internet if you pay but it's a pity, as this seems to be a simple thing to offer. * Nice pool on roof. * The location is very central and we had a party that ended in the early hours of the Sunday morning which was quite loud with lots of kids in the street. I didn't mind personally but it could bother some people if the room is road facing. * Our standard room did not have a view and I upgraded at AUD $30 a night for a nicer room that had a lovely view of the road and church. * Nice Shower/Bath NOT SO GOOD - no ramp to wheel luggage off the street into the foyer and no staff assistance with luggage so if you have 2 x 30kg bags plus 2 x 4 kg hand luggage etc. then NOT EASY! And our luggage didn't fit into the lift once on the hotel cart so we had to take it off and then manoeuvre items in/out of the lift. - we arrived less than an hour before the check in and there were apparently no standard rooms available so I had to upgrade to the deluxe to get in earlier but at least we weren't charged for half a day as some hotels do. - No sink so if you want to wash any cups etc only the bathroom sink

The location was good conveniently located in the city centre amongst all the restaurants and theatre. The room we stay had no views and basically looks onto another wall. The worst part of the experience was when we discovered long hairs on the bathroom floor which couldn't be ours because both my partner and I had short hair. When we looked more closely the floor had accumulated dust everywhere and it was filthy. It was quite clear it had not been mopped for quite some time. When I made a complaint to the duty manager, i expected his reaction to be extremely apologetic and embarrassed but instead of an apology his question to me was would you like me to get someone to clean it? He then sent someone to sweep the bathroom floor but clearly the bathroom floor was still dirty as I was still not been mopped. As a guest I should not have to teach a duty manager what a clean bathroom floor looks like. We stayed in the same room for 2 night and we discovered the bedsheets in fact had not been changed also. Overall I think this hotel does not even meet basic standards of hygiene and cleanliness and I would not recommend anyone to stay there.

Very poor experience. We were meant get an upgrade - that cant be true or very bad. Room so tiny, very old and dated, peeling paint... Was looking forward to the pool - but its closed as heating pump not working. Went to dinner tonight and can honestly say worst meal ever. Got given the wrong meals, restaurant was freezing, then actual meal - HORRIBLE. If you are thinking of staying here - DONT DO IT, the only plus is the location

This Hotel has a good location but that's about it. The room was tiny with twin beds, there was no spacious executive desk or room and the decor a bit dated.. The balcony is just a view of a side alley .not my idea of a balcony room. the roof top pool was nice, sorry but I would not recommend this hotel.

Great spot to stay just felt that the property was a little tired, cracked and chipped tiles in hallways. Did feel the hot water was dangerously hot. Will stay again at price we paid. Apaper would have been nice in the mornings

I enjoyed my experience at the Grand Chancellor. The only fault I found...and I know everyone is different, but the bathroom was way too hot....continuous warm air pumped through the vents....I had a luke warm shower, but was soon very warm once I stepped out of the shower.
