Not knowing Salzburg, we didn't know what location would be best. This hotel is in the old city right at the beginning of the largest, traffic-free shopping street. It was easy to get everywhere. The weather was cold and we were glad to be close to everything. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were cozy. The breakfast buffet was very expensive at 32 euros, so plan to eat breakfast at one of the charming cafes near by.

A perfectly charming hotel located exactly where you want to be in Salzburg. Do plan on eating breakfast out as the buffet was 32 euros! There is a nice, smoke-free cafe near Alt Salzburg hotel that offers more than rolls for a reasonable price.

The Golden Hirsch is probably one of the greatest experiences to have while in Salzburg. It has an amazing heritage and authentic Austrian comfort that is uber luxury without it being too stylised and over the top. The rooms are absolutely the best in a 5 star league, staff attentiveness par excellence, and location on one of the best streets in the Old Town. I do not want to say more or I will be giving away one of the best secrets of Salzburg. It will be my regular place to stay when ever I visit Salzburg again.

Wonderful hotel in an exquisite Austrian city. Location on the end of the old town makes for easy in and out while walking and shopping. ONLY PROBLEM...make sure to use the von Karajan street address with your GPS and NOT the Getriede Strasse one listed on Orbitz. You cannot drive to the Getriede Str. front of the hotel as it faces the old town with little or no traffic allowed. The von Karajan address brings you to the back where you can unload the car. NOTE THAT HOTEL PARKING IS 30 EUROS ($50 USD) PER NIGHT.

Excellent location and very attentive staff. The only problem was the thermostat for the room had no effect on the temperature, so the room was too warm.
