Hotel Arena Amsterdam

A very nicely set out hotel in a nice, quiet suburb within easy walking distance of central Amsterdam. The rooms were clean and well-kept and the general quality high. However the service left something to be desired. Shortly after checking in a member of staff entered my room unannounced, being unaware that anyone had checked in, items I had not consumed were on the minibar bill, and I had some problems with the front desk refusing (don't say 'can't' when you mean 'won't'!) to process my payment through chip-and-pin (I do NOT want you noting my security number down anywhere, thankyou) or to provide me with a comprehensive receipt. Not huge problems, clearly, but uncooperative.

This hotel had a fantastic boutique feel. My partner and I stayed here for three nights whilst in Amsterdam and I would go back in a heart beat. The staff were friendly and always available to help- one kind gentleman ordered my partner a pizza from a local takeaway at 2am! The staff will provide any information needed and all were polite from front of house to the maid in our room. The room was fantastic! I have never seen such a place decorated in such a minimalist yet classically luxurious fashion. High ceilings teamed with grande oversized furniture all tied together with the obvious cleanliness of the room. We had breakfast for one day whilst visiting and it was well worth it, the food was of high quality.

This renovated orphanage gives you a real feeling of. Being in the Nederlands. We loved the rooms with the clean decorations - Bathrooms and showers were tiled. We got a good price for the quality - the location is actually excellent 5 minutes by bike from the downtown action but quiet too - you do not want to stay downtown unless you want to party all night long

Overall I wasn't disappointed at all. My first room I was a little unhappy due to my height and this particular room, though it was very quaint and comfortable it was tough, but after voicing my minor complaint they switched up my room and I actually ended up with an upgrade right away. The AM breakfast is very tasty and has a good variety of foods to appease most palettes, though I would like to add that it is charged to your room, though I don't think the pricing is posted or made clear unless asked, just fair warning, but I felt it was of value. The club was also entertaining, just make sure to talk to the hosts during the day to get on the list. Buy a tram pass from the host and don't forget to tap on and off the tram ;-)

Excellent hotel. Staff very helpful with advice. Short walk to trams - 10 mins to town. Restaurant lovely - especially the bitterballs. Glass walls on bathroom were interesting - be sure to stay with someone you know really well. Loft could be tricky if not sure on your feet.

- Very nice desig of the room; - I had initially some problems to find the room (n°120) because the indications of the room in the main hall was not very clear.

The Arena is located only four metro stops from central station (therefore within easy reach) and close to the centre, but not so close as to have crowds walking around it. We were so lucky as to occupy one of the newly refurbished rooms and I must say that I was pleasantly impressed. Our room had very high ceiling; a very comfortable, clean, soft bed; very nice bathroom with toilet and shower and an upstairs sitting area, furbished with white, low chairs and a desk with tv. There was also a closet, a safe and an ironing board. Everything is brand new and looks very clean. The bathroom has indeed glass walls, but it is very dark glass and the middle part is not transparent. The airco works fine. We had no problem with the check-in and in the afternoon we went to the bar. They serve good food and prices are reasonable. I was very much impressed and would definitely recommend it, as I never found in major European cities, such a nice hotel at such a relatively low price.

The Hotel Reception Desk was rude and terrible. There was construction going on at the hotel during our stay that was not advertized, and they were not very accomodating. On the flip side, the restaurant is excellent. The service and food there are both great. Do not stay here, but visit for a nice dinner!

This hotel is a contradiction. It is rated three stars. The dining room is worth fiv stars, some of the best food I have ever eaten. The breakfast however gets zero stars. Cold bacon, dry eggs. The room was clean but very spartan. Lacking any but the essential facilities. No hair dryer. No pictures on the wall. A weird looking steel locker room type locker for clothes. They forgot my wake up call. Had I been meeting a flight I would have been in trouble. Fortunately I awoke without the call but they seemed not to be worried. Otherwise the front desk was helpful, polite, and cheerful.

while it is a short tram ride away from the hustle and bustle of all tourists and lovely coffee shops, it is worth living in. its got beautiful rooms, tastefully done corridors with old photographs of this place when it used to be a girls orphanage. the club arena, in the old chapel in the premises absolutely rocks on friday and Saturday nights. the staff is extremely friendly, cheerful and helpful. the garden seats are worth spending a moment at. and the area, while a little deserted,is perfectly safe to walk around in the night as well. best non hassle way to get there from airport is the hotel shuttle [ around 12.50 euro per person]. 9 and 14 yrams take you to the central station and dam. everything is easily accessible. will stay there as many times i visit amsterdam.

But found it very noisy at night e.g. doors banging echoing in passages. difficult to get to by public transport with luggage. Would still recommend staff very friendly and helpful was a great asset having everything on the premises. Food excellent.

Overall the hotel was good and the restaurant and bar were very nice, however the site missleads by stating the hotel is central, whilst in the Amsterdam area this was a fair way out from the main squares & areas and so their ended up being a few unecessary taxi journeys.
