Hotel Amsterdam & De Roode Leeuw
4 out of 5

Situated handy to everything! Room modern and comfortable, a little on the small side, but you're only sleeping there!. However totally insulated from any noise outside. Staff very courteous, except one who was probably the boss/owner and didn't like us bringing in food but we had missed lunch and it was so hot we wanted to get inside. Breakfast could offer more variety, but was fresh. Certainly a good place to stay for a first time visitor.

I enjoyed my stay here very much. This is the third time I've stayed here. The location, just off Dam Square, can't be beat and the rooms are very comfortable.

My husband and I booked The Hotel Amsterdam for our week-long stay in Amsterdam. The hotel is very centrally located and is within walking distance of pretty much everything - the van Gogh museum, Anne Frank House, central train station, Allard Pierson museum, etc. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Anything we needed, was provided. For example, the code for the free internet stopped working. I went down to the desk, and they fixed the problem right away. They were ready with information, and were very personable. The room itself was perfect for our needs. Small by comparison to American hotel rooms, but very cozy. We also got a room right on the Dam square. We were able to people watch from the Juliet balcony.

Overall, staff was helpful, room clean , place is super central, fantastic location when first time in amsterdam, the only downside is that the bathroom is facing the room....and that would not be a problem if the DOOR WOULD NOT BE MADE OF GLASS!!!!!!! jesus!!!!!! thank god me and my partner were already 3 years "old" , but imagine the surprise. it was a good reason to make fun of ourselves but i would not go back again for these reason alone. i mean... who can relax in a bathroom you can look at through the door's window? the whole door is a window, transparent enough. guys really, change the bloody doors!!!! imagine a young couple's surprise and distress... we didn;t eat at the restaurant but it was always full in the evening so i imagine the food is good too, but who'd bother dressing up when in amsterdam? Mostly we saw elderly people eating there and business men. no snow on xmas day helped for the traffic was fantastic and no dirt obviously. anyway, it's one of those things you only wanna do once in a life time probably so for that alone the location and the clean room would make us give 3 stars to this hotel. (you could hear other people using the bathroom through the walls... imagine the rest?) there was tv in the room but everything was charged , tv, wireless connection, everything, so we settled for wireless with an ok experience, not even that one too fast. so.. .much more attention needed for a 4 star quality . Anyway, amsterdam was fun and location of the hotel really helped. Hope that helps

Probably what you would expect, although I don't think it quite rates 4 stars., Perhaps a top 3 star. Thats comparing it to UK hotels of similar gradings. Staff very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Room cleanliness excellent, but fairly standard furnishing wise. In fairness to the hotel they are carrying out rennovations to rooms so this might change.

Hotel location is central for getting around. Generally warm and clean room with a great bathroom. Down side is the 'hotel rules', we were told off when we walked into the hotel eating an ice cream! The male receptionist was quite brusk.

The De Roode Leeuw was a good hotel for a first time visit to Amsterdam. The hotel is near Dam Square, centrally located, walking distance to all including the Central Station, and easy find at the end of the day. The staff could not be nicer, were well informed and all spoke English. Drawbacks - This is the main tourist area and was very noisy until 11:00 PM due to a festival. Lighting in the room was very poor. For a romantic vacation, stick to the canals.

Great hotel and in a fantastic location near Dam Square - walking distance from Centraal Station and close to the main areas of central Amsterdam. Very highly recommended - this was my second stay at this hotel.

Excellent resturant for evening meal, good selection, but breakfast poor value at 15 euros. Although our room, which was spacious and clean, was on the main road there was no noise. Excellent location for centre attractions and rail station

great location about 2 blocks from central station, Room we got was unacceptable, couldn'y open bathroom door because room was so small door would hit the bed. Smelled of smoke. We upgraded to a jr. suite for about $25 a night more and it was fine. Hotel is just a little tired.

A silent and renewed hotel in the heart of Amsterdam. Rooms are small but cozy. Personnel is extremely friendly. Restaurant is spacious and service is perfect. Breakfast is supposed to be included to room price at booking but recharged at the hotel. I recommend this hotel to all lonely hearts.

Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw, is wonderfully situated. It is so central for sightseeing. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young Receptionist. We had arrived to early to take over the room, but, hotel staff, stored our luggage safely while we took our first visit round Amsterdam. All hotel staff we came into contact with, were very helpful, and very cheerful. Nothing seemed to be to much trouble. Our room was big and airy, and very clean. I would love to visit Amsterdam again and would not hesitate in choosing this hotel.

Very well located. Very nice people. What seemed strange to us was that we were asked to pay an one night stay deposit as an advance payment for probable use of the hotel services. Overall a pleasant stay.

Ecxellent location. Very good service. Very clean. Only thing we didn't expect is that we were asked to give 100 Euro advance payment for any hotel services we might use. Anyway this hotel was great value for money.

The rooms are small and heard lots of noise from adjoining rooms. Great location though in the main centre of town. Staff spoke good English and some were were helpful but not generally so. No breakfast. Ok but not great value for the price.

Unlike most hotels in Amsterdam, I found this hotel to be very clean, comfortable and offering modern facilities including flat screen TV, Internet connections, mini-bar etc. The single room may be a little small, but for one person it does the job. Great location and very convenient to all city areas. Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
