Easy to find using Sat Nav. Good location for walking in to city center areas. Modern style hotel with clean modern rooms. Only downside is that you have to pay for parking £10/night, which is across the road from the hotel.

On first arriving at this hotel we got a great first impression, reception and bar is very smart... It's a shame this doesn't stretch to the bedrooms. We couldn't check in because they were doing their final checks... Not sure what they were checking as the room was for 2 people yet they only left 1 towel. On entering the room it was freezing, with only a small radiator tucked down the side of the bed to heat it up, maybe some curtains would help lock in the heat? And block out the noisy trolleys that kept going past the window (we were on the ground floor) The bed wasn't a double, it was 2 single mattresses pushed together so if you rolled in the middle you got trapped in a delve, every time you moved it creaked, it was most uncomfortable, probably the worst bed we have slept in. Overall the staff were friendly and allowed us to store our luggage after checking out which was great. The room was clean, basic but not worth it if you're paying full rate. The hotel overall is ok, the rooms just need some TLC

easy to park right opposite hotel (10 pound a night) hotel pillows terribly thick...sore neck or no pillow so I opted for no pillow...not very comfy. But great location short stroll from town. Clean, modern room. Quiet rooms. Pleased with choice.

Upon check- in reception staff were very welcoming and polite, went out their way to help us with finding a particular restaurant. Room spacious, modern and clean. Very comfortable bed and good powerful shower in bathroom. Great stay!

In a word, Passable. Staff helpful, room clean. Slightly marred by mattress with big dip in middle so we rolled together and traffic noise very intrusive. Needs better fenestration to sound proof outside noises. Location good for central York being no more than a 5 minute walk away. In terms of value £120 for one night only plus car park plus breakfast seems pricey.

Excellent 'boutique'style hotel in easy reach of York centre (about 10 minutes walk). Very clean, well appointed rooms and an excellent buffet breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful and the access to covered parking across the road (£10 charge) was an unexpected bonus. Would recommend. Steve Haynes

Room was very clean and tidy, Hotel staff were very helpful. Weatherspoons is across the road from the Hotel which has very cheap and tasty meals, especially breakfast for 3 pounds.. York Castle and Musuem close to hotel although Railway Museum and Railway Station about a 25 minute walk..

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel, as I booked it based on reviews I had seen on [competitor website]. Having had not such great luck with my booking in London, I didn't know what to expect, but the staff was courteous, the room spacious and clean, the bed comfortable and the location also very good, at an easy walking distance to the old city. I strongly recommend it and would not hesitate to book myself there again, whenever I find myself in York.

In general, I was disappointed from this hotel, and only the manager on duty (a very nice person which I forgot his name) made it bearable. The bathroom in my kids' room was stinking but the guy came and fixed it. There was no parking so I was sent to park in a "pay and display" parking lot (which forced me to wake up early and renew the payment). We were provided with a room for disabled persons (without being asked first) and it was not comfortable. The water in the shower were dripping very sloooooowly, so my wife had to go to the kids' room for a shower. All in all, I did not like our stay there, and only the manager on duty (a very nice person) tried hard to make it easier and deserves a salute.

Hotel 53 York is in a great location, 5 minutes walk to all the shops and bars. The lady on the reception was a little weird, she made me walk to the other side of the reception with all my luggage to pay the parking when she could have easily took the money at the first side. It's clean and most of the staff are nice.

while the staff were very freindly and fell over themselves to help us i feel that it was not as good as it could have been. Parking was atrocious requiring you to leave your car in a council car park overnight and although free on sunday i had to get up at the crack of dawn to feed the meter on the monday even though we were leaving that day!Food menu was expensive even breakfast wich, with the price we paid shoul have been included we ate at the wetherspoons over the road, very cheap and good food.!!! the telly was basic with nothing for our three year old to watch (hint, take a freeview box!) and sky one had sound only! Overal, good BASIC accommodation (no wardrobes and limited space) certainly not worth the price, you are paying for the location which to be fair is excellent and the pretentious surroundings. Think "little chef" trying to be "the ritz" and you get an idea

We stayed one night at the hotel. The staff were very helpful. The room was basic but very clean. The bed was a little too comfortable - we prefer very hard beds. The bathroom wa sexcellent. The hotel is 10 mins walk from the centre of York. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room, but it was good value. It was a self service buffet with plenty of fresh fruit and yoghurt, as well as the usual bacon, eggs, etc.

Thought this was a really nice comfortable hotel and it was in a very good location within easy walking distance of the centre of York. I think the only drawback is having to pay for parking which can add a big cost to your short break.
