We are very dissapointed with this accomodation. The room is horrible, smells bad, run down, very humid with poor ventilation, extremely stuffy even with the window opened. Only one of the toilet has light bulb in it, two bathroom, both have missing window that allows people with the next building to see into the bathroom when you take shower. Terrible stay, DO NOT STAY!

The only things about this hotel are 1.Location-five minutes walk to Central Station, 2.Sheets are clean, 3.Hot water good and bathroom clean. However The rooms are small with just a fan and no heating or cooling. Tv is in common room Have to pay deposit on key$20,and towel $5. Reception closed 8pm to 8am Breakfast(tea coffee and toast-run out by 8.15 the first day so didn't bother going again The room was vacuumed daily but carpet so old it looked dirty still. The price is high considering the age and condition of the hotel

We stayed one night after going to a concert in the city. The room was reasonably sized (not like staying in a shoe box you know), the sheets were clean, the place was quiet and we could easily have stayed longer if need be. For the price it was a palace and I would go there again.

We attended a conference for a week at Olympic Park. Staying almost a week here was a great decision. The place just next to the Central Station which allowed us to mobile easily.

The Home Backpackers is one of those hostels that isn't so much for actual backpackers, but caters mostly to 40-something locals whose wives have given them the boot, International students looking for cheap rent while on working holiday, and other long-term residents. There isn't much of a communal feel here - it's more like an apartment complex than a hostel. Fellow travellers mostly kept to themselves, and the common areas were almost invariably deserted. The free breakfast (toast) came in handy for lunch and dinner, too - they just leave bread in a box, so help yourself. Kitchen equipment could use some work - a lot of it was rusted beyond useable condition. The rooms were incredibly cold - there is no heating here, which makes for some chilly evenings in the winter. Do yourself a favor and pay a few dollars more and stay elsewhere....unless you want to be in a dorm room with a 45-year old man.

It is very well situated. Free bus shuttle to best tourist places in town. Simple clean rooms. Sweet and helpful people at reception. Dining room has free fridge to put your food away, free kitchen facilities to cook your meals. Free hot water for Breakfast, plates silverware bowls knives etc.. all available. Free dinner each night if you are there on time ( around 6 45 PM). Fantastic for backpackers and low budget travelers.

The lady at the desk was a sweetheart and she seemed to be there 24 hours at a time. But I just felt so dirty there, the carpets were ruined. Bugs were under the cushions in the tv room. It was just gross.

Building is rundown but relatively clean. Quiet location and handy to Central Station. Free bus loop bus stops outside. If you are not staying in your room except to sleep a good cheap accommodation stay. Did not appear to have any heating for winter so check if you need winter warmth.

Not having stayed at backpackers before I was unsure of what to expect. The location was very good, nice and central with only a 5 - 10 minute walk to anywhere I needed to be. The building although reasonably old seemed clean. The facilities are basic with one shower and a couple of toilets per floor (about 10 rooms) but I never had to queue for the shower. A communal kitchen and TV lounge offerred th opportunity to meet other guests. Free internet is available at reception or wireless elswhere if you prefer for a fee. Early checkout is accomodated and you may also use towels upon payment of a reasonable bond which is refunded on return of the towel. I thought the room rate was a little bit more than I would have liked to have paid. Overall a good stay for short term.

Home Backpackers is a very old basic accommodation, a bed to stay overnight, good location, service is OK and pricing is good. But I would try another better hotel next time. Thanks.

Excellent location and friendly staff. Could do with a bit of tidy up to the rooms and the bathrooms, the light in my room didn't work so lucky I had my torch! Most important the bed was good and the room was quiet considering it is in the middle of the city.

It's just a backpacker hotel, so the facilities and service are okay. Good location, near to Central rail station, no air-condition and it's cold in winter night. Compared wtih other reservation before in Sydney, the price is high, but for one day, it's the lowest indeed.

Very basic, bit shabby, but great location, cheap and felt safe. Mixed ages staying which surprised me and all guests that I met seemed well behaved and friendly. Beds clean and comfortable, linen clean and professionally laundered. Clean, modern shower room but shower head not fitted to wall properly so not as good as it could have been. Kitchen small, cramped and not very inviting, large communal fridges which I didn't use. Big lockers in room but very flimsy locking device which required you to supply your own padlock, I personally wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving valuables in it just clothes.

Good enough for a short-stay, atmoshpere looks cool without excessive noise. Great location with a bus stop right in front of the door-steps. Free internet service is also cool. the only thing makes you down is the unstable hot water.
