My family has been to this Hotel many times for the past 10 years. It has the atmosphere of a "small town" - friendly hotel. The location is very good - on the beach. The surrounding buildings are far enough apart as to not feel crowded. Its the best place to go if you want a relaxing vacation - which is hard to find these days. The staff in the restaruant is the best.

After spending almost $1,000 during my first two days staying there, I discovered exactly why so many people do not recommend this hotel. The staff are incompetent, uneducated idiots. I will be filing a multimillion dollar, breach of contract, libel, slander, bodily harm, and emotional duress suit against the bar owner Sean, Manager Miranda, the old guy security guard with glasses, bartenders Jeremy and Miranda and the owner/operator of SunSpree Holiday Inn-his asst is Ann. Ciao.

Our stay was a tale of extremes. On the first day everything was horrible. Our room (503) had wet carpet and a malfunctioning AC unit, the fish tanks at the front desk were half full of disgusting green water, and we found band aids and cherry stems in the pool. My wife was so repulsed she was ready to leave and I would have been hard pressed to give them two stars. On the second day, we were moved to a new room that was larger (and dry) and both the fish tanks and pool had been cleaned. We then had a lovely time and I would give them four stars. I'm giving them three stars as an average of our experience and would suggest to fellow travelers to expect some inconsistencies with this hotel.

Spent about 5 - 6 hours a day at the beach. During that time would have few drinks at the outside bar. Great beach experience. this was our third trip here and this one is the best beach visits that we have made in Texas (including previous two, plus numerous trips to Galveston & South Padre Island).
