Hilton Metropole Hotel Birmingham Guest Reviews
The fixtures and furniture in the rooms are worn, cobbled together, and look like they are from the seventies. There was a cigarette burn on the bathroom counter. A water pipe was leaking through the drywall in the ceiling above the shower. the bathtub was 4 inches higher than normal because of a sub-floor. The TV was a 14 inch CRT. The hotel room and bathroom were the smallest I have ever stayed in. The hotel restaurants are expensive, and the business center charges 3 pounds for 10 minutes of internet access WTF? The nearby NEC has a Subway restaurant that gave me the trots, so I ended up eating at the Burger King in the airport, because there's nothing else reasonably priced within walking distance. The NEC and airport also have internet access for 1 pound for 20 minutes, so go there. The other nearby hotel has no internet terminals available. Birmingham? On the good side, the carpet was reasonably clean, the hot water was hot. The lobby and public areas had marble floors and were nicely decorated.

Lovely hotel when you arrive, but parking is a nightmare, you can drive around for 20 minutes looking for somewhere to park as this hotel is huge. Pricey for drinks, 2 large glasses of house rose wines cost me £18.00 at the bar and a very weak coke was £2.00. Restaurant prices too expensive, but we did eat on the second night in the restaurant as it was buffet style and I like the idea. However, the food did not taste fresh at all and we waited some 30 minutes for a Pizza and chips ordered for my nephew. We were happy with the staff and the way in which they spoke to us everyone was extremely friendly. Other than the swimming pool the hotel has no facilities for young children and not even a child's movie was available to purchase on the "in room entertainment package". I complained about a leak of water under my basin unit on the Saturday afternoon as the bathroom was "Flooded" and I had not used the shower to cause it. I think the leak was from behind the toilet, so not very hygienic. When I checked out on the Sunday at 12.00 noon the leak was still there and no one had been up to my room to look at it. Overall, considering the price paid for the hotel and the high prices whilst we were there it was certainly not value for money and highly overpriced.

First impressions of the hotel are fantastic, large open plan entrance with marble everywhere. However, when we entered our room the toilet seat in the bathroom was covered in urine, rather than complain my wife just proceeded to clean it up. Prices are close to extortionate £27.00 for a bottle of house rose, £4.30 for a lager shandy and £2.00 for a small glass of ice (with coke in it) as it was watered down. To cap it all they then charge a 10% service charge fee for serving you the drinks in the restaurant. Food was buffet style and tasted like it had been out for hours, however the turkey was very fresh and plenty of it. My wife was visiting the NEC, so you could not get any closer to the exhibition centre so location was fantastic. No amenities for children other than the pool, no TV Channels for children, so I took my grandson out for the day. We stay away often in much lesser quality hotels (Village and Novotel) but these all cater well for children. Hilton should learn that not everyone is on a business trip using there hotels.

***DOUBLE CHARGED OUR CARD******* CHEAPTICKETS CHARGED FOR THE HOTEL AND the HILTON charged our AMEX Card. for THREE NIGHTS LODGING. This has been going on since March 2011......Cheaptickets is not helpful and the Hilton is not helpful.....both pointing the finger at one another and ignoring the customer. Package locator PKIJE5 FIX IT!!!!!!!!!

Good, clean hotel. Ideally situated for Birmingham International airport but far enough from any noise.
