The staff was very helpful and we had a great experience. The shops are great!

This is my first hotel review. I read a lot of them before booking our Nov 30-Dec 4, 2011 trip so I thought I'd return the favor. We found a flat rate shuttle/taxi service and reserved ahead of time. After the short drive from Honolulu’s air port we arrived to the hotel right at sunset. The lobby is open-we were able to feel a light breeze and see part of the sunset while we waited in a short line. I got the feeling that people working and living in Hawaii aren't in a hurry. The lady checking us in took her time... if we were in a hurry or if we were inpatient people we might have been upset and would have mistaken her kindness/laidback-ness as something negative (other people working behind the desk weren’t all quite as “slow-moving”). She was SUPER pleasant and we walked to our hotel room at the Tapa Tower with smiles on our faces. I’m not sure of the differences of all of the Towers but when we booked we asked for a basic/king bed room. To our surprise-we had a partial view of the Ocean and a full view of the Lagoon FROM the balcony-not from the actual room. This was nice! We were able to admire the view while standing on our balcony, without having to pay the “partial ocean view” price. We spent most of our time out and about on the Island or on the beach but I’d like to point out how comfortable the room was, especially the bed. We made a last minute decision to rent a jeep wrangler from the Hertz Rental at the hotel for our first full day. (rental was for 24 hours but we returned it 12 hours later so we wouldn’t have to pay the parking garage to have it for a couple hours the next morning), we drove to the North Beach to catch the world cup of surfing competition and on our way, we stopped by the Dole Plantation for some Pineapple ice cream and some Hawaiian Salt. (There is a store in there that offers a wide variety of snacks, etc.) On our way back to the Hotel we decided to drive the perimeter of the Island rather than straight back. We used someone’s suggestion and stopped by one of the farmstands. Excellent!! I recommend. (huge avocados, yummy sugar cane, option to drink out of a coconut before they get the meat out for you and bag it for you.) Our last full day, we booked two excursions with the hotel. A shuttle took us to and from Diamond Head Crater (tour guide) and later in the day another shuttle picked us up for a Rainforest hike. I especially liked the Rainforest hike. Prepare to have muddy shoes!! (I used the shower by the beach and hair dryer in our room on both of our shoes before packing to go home the next day.) If I didn’t feel the need to travel “all over” I’d definitely return to this hotel. Oh yea, and the icing on the cake was that they offered us a hospitality room for our 7pm flight. We were able to take last minute showers, bathroom break, and another chance to organize our luggage. (you can rent the room for 45 minutes). The people working at the desks were very helpful!! The few times we ate on site, we were treated great! Especially at the Tropics restaurant (right off the beach-go there for happy hour! Yum!!)

The hotel was very nice but our trip was marred by the APEC conference that was held next door to the Hilton Hawaiian. We should have been WARNED prior to our booking/travel that the conference is going to happen. We were practically held prisoners and isolated inside the hotel since the streets were cordoned around for blocks and being a first time visitor to the island, we would not dare venture out in our rental car lest we won't be able to get back to the hotel. Our vacation was RUINED. We were not able to visit the tourist sites in and around the islands. If we had been WARNED, we could have moved the dates.

Stay 3 nights in mid November 2011. Room given is in the Tapa Tower. Booked partial seaview room, however you have to go out to the balcony only you could view the sea from far, for that the room rate is quite pricey. Room is clean and comfortable but a bit old. A very big resort, easy to find food as there are a few restaurants in the resort and also quite a number of gift shops. Has the widest beach front with soft sandy beach compared to the few hotels further up. Walking distant to Waikiki Shopping Centers & Malls & restaurants. For those who don't like to walk a bus stop station just outside the resort. Bus is easily available along the waikiki area and to Ala Moana Shopping Center. Waikele Premium Outlet offers a wide range of branded goods at good price. The Luau show & dinner at the resort is a bit disappointed.
