Hotel looks like it was grand once upon a time. New bathroom, clean, included continental breakfast, but for $10 you could get eggs, potatoes..etc more. The view is nice, but there is no pool. The worst problem was that the bar held Saturday night party. The bar is a separate building across from the rooms. So bass pumped until 1am. Surely another building could have been quieter! Fine other than that.

The location is at the core of Hilo. Very nice views of the bay. Perfect for people who need the basics without flamboyant pretensions. Clean room; nice staff.

They are in the middle of remodeling this hotel. Our room was very clean, but looked unfinished. We got an oceanside room and the view was the best ever! Ocean and mountain right out your window. Staff was very helpful too. Must eat at Ken's Pancakes right around the corner.

Minimual staff to start with. Rooms are sparse; no coffee pot, tile everywhere (floors and walls)... not a comfortable experience. Room felt cold, hard, and loud. Conversations actually echoed in the room. I have a TV in the backseat of my SUV that was larger than the one in the room. We felt we were staying at the 'Y'. Anyone over 55 is not going to be able to enter the shower/bathtub. The bottom of the tub is at the floor level... which is OK, but the tub wall is about 26 to 28" tall. I'm 55 years old, in very good health and shape (I bike and hike) and it was an effort to get in and out. The parking lot was dimly lit and had more holes than the Volcanos National Park! The hotels on both sides of this one were brightly lite, parking lots were full of vehicles, and alot of activity was occurring. The Naniloa Volcanoes Resort was a ghost town. In closing, calling this property a resort is a big stretch of the imagination. A budget motel on this property would fair better. You can pay the same price at another hotel/resort nearby for a way better experience. Stay away.....

We came down a hallway of solid echoing tile to our room with noisy college kids in about 4 rooms down the hall. One call to the desk and it got quiet but the managment took the next step and offered to move us down a floor to a wonderful room over the pool and practically over the bay. The room atmospheres are cold. Cold colors and tile everywhere. Harsh flourescent lighting with two normal lamps bed side. The beds were wonderful. While decor is extremely minimalistic its clean and smells good. Nice sized refrig.; tiny coffee pot; no microwave. We would stay again because of the quiet good nights sleep right off the lovely ocean.

The Naniloa Volcanoes resort was just as reviewed. A little dated but was expecting that. Request an iron/iron board when you check in. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast on site was good. Banyon Drive is gorgeous and is the perfect location for a hotel. You must try Ken's House of Pankcakes which is close to the hotel. Be sure to do the volcano state park in the late afternoon so you can be there around 7pm to see the oragne glow from the crater.

The rooms are actually pretty decent but the outside sames weathered and old. The facilities are poor but there is not anything better on the Hilo side of the island. But, all you do is sleep there. The hotel is close to most of the beautiful, outdoorsy stuff.

We really enjoyed our 5-day stay in Hilo, including the Naniloa Resorts Hotel. I particularly enjoyed the proximity to Coconut Island and the Gardens within easy walking distance. The pool was large and well maintained. We took a garden room, but still had a view of the water and the cruise ships coming into the harbor. The only drawback was no printer for the lobby computer. It was supposedly broken, but I did not even see a printer waiting to be fixed. The staff was able to arrange for me to use an office printer to print my boarding passes. [...]

I read reviews of this hotel and was a little worried about making a booking but the free internet and fridge swayed me. I was not disappointed with the hotel - it was clean and comfortable and well located next to the Japanese gardens. Staff were courteous and helpful. We ate out and spent long days enjoying the surrounding countryside. A good basic hotel which is obviously only partly utilized. Not for people wanting luxury but that is the charm of Hilo- mixing it with the locals and enjoying the natural ambience of the region.

Rooms were clean and great view but the lifts really dirty and in need of renovations. Good location. Not much public transport around and not many eating places - adequate. Good price.

the hotel is very old but under renovating. They gave us a renovated room with partial ocean view which is not bad. Free parking which is a good point too.

we had a delux ocian front room with Lanai which was remodeled recently so the room was very clean and tastful in sinmple style. we enjoyed the beautiful view of the Mauna Kea mountain over the sea from the room. The Hotel is stil on away to reconstruct and the service is not so you would expect from the first grade hotel, forinstance the elevators inside, out door swimming pool look rather unsightly, and what they serve for the breakfast buffet is not so special for the money you spend. We would recomend to take a breakfast at Ken`s dinning just a few blocks a way from the hotel.

We stayed in a not yet renovated room for $56US. It was very old, musty, and had disgustingly stained carpets. The beds were ok as was the bathrooms. This is reflected back on the price we paid for the room compared to other available accommodation, although the front desk staff was not as friendly and helpful as could be. One positive aspect was that the signal from the wireless internet actually was able to be picked up from the garden view rooms.

Carpets were very old and soiled, walls needed painting, and bedspread had cigarette burns. On the positive side, location was excellent, price was very low, and major renovations were under way.
