the room is very small, only a double standard bed, update to queen need more money. Cleanliness is acceptable. Location is convenient. Walking distance to Waikiki beach. However, it is one of the cheapest hotel I can find in this area in Honolulu! So, it is a nice choice for budget travel.

This hotel is run down and in need of a major remodel, It was very noisy and you can hear the room next to you very clear. I will Not be staying here again.

We have stayed at the Hawaiian Monarch several times. If you expect frills and pampering, stay elsewhere. The staff are always excellent. We stay here because the rooms have always been clean, not big or fancy, and the rates are the best in Waikiki! We will stay again when we come to Oahu to visit our family and extended family on the island. We do not spend alot of time in our room, mostly to sleep and shower.

Not the cleanest but was cheap. Close to beach and resort area. Felt security was lacking. If you plan on being in room much, get a nicer hotel, spend a few more dollars. Overall, you get what you pay for.

This hotel was a good deal for the price however there are several things that would help to make there star value increase. The staff were great and very helpful. There is no wifi unless you rent one of their modems. There is no ice machine and the change machine they have for their laundry room was broken. Our biggest annoyance with this hotel was the problem with their water temperatures. When using the shower the water constantly would fluctuate in temperature. This became very painful as I was sunburnt and the temperature would go up drastically then drop back down. It was very unpleasant.

I stayed at the Hawaiian monarch hotel because I had a family in ICU at the nearby hospital ( I flew in from outer island). Staff was friendly, and did everything they could to make my stay comfortable. I wasn't on vacation so I didn't need an expensive resort. It suited my needs, and would probably stay there again.

Very Quiet, and easy access to the buses in Honolulu. And an easy walk along the shopping area towards the International Market Place, the rooms were quiet, cable TV was Ok, and very clean, and I also had a very good view of the city, there was a cafe, and sundries store, and good secruity protection, love the cards keys, and also a mini car or scooter rental, and also a Drug store, and the ABC store... Very much love the place. Also a short walk to Waikiki Beach, and the Ala Moana Shopping Center, and connections to the Bus routes. Yes I would come back. Thank You....

The distance was a good walking distance to Waikiki shops, however, I like the exercise. The hotel did not provide mini bar nor did it provide coffee/tea facilities in the room. The view on 18th floor was very good. The room had dreadful acoustics through the wall. I could hear next room conversation and at 4am, this is not good. The reception was not able to provide activities or tours around Waikiki and one receptionist forgot to put down my wake up call at 5am. Lucky I set up my mobile phone. This was not acceptable. The bathroom had no amenities provided other than a very small shampoo and conditioner which did not smell healthy for hair. Nor did the water from taps. Very chlorinated and again, did not smell healthy. Saying all the above, I would not discount this hotel if you are looking for a cheap hotel just outside the Waikiki strip. Just be prepared to stay in a 2 star hotel and pay the cheap and reasonable price it offers through hotelclub website. Thankyou.

The staff were very helpful, the room spacious and clean, the view from the 23rd floor panoramic, and the beds very comfortable. The bath needed a good clean up. Coffee supplied 1st day only! Located just 80 metres from the main drag, and about 500 metres from the heart of Waikiki, it was very good value for money. Would stay there again - yes.

Pricing was ok, but you would expect to have free parking included rather than having to pay an additional $12 US per day. Wasn't happy about that. Lifts are very slow, which wasn't that great, but overall it was nice to have windows that opened up for fresh air, rather than air conditioning all the time. Very helpful staff at the front desk, which is always great. Especially the lady whose name i cannot remember, who checked us into our room. She was fantastic.

Although - not the greatest location - I was very impressed with the room and security. Cheryl, at the counter, terrific and made me feel welcomed. One flaw - they should provide free ice and fix their ice-maker ... other than that - I was more impressed with place than when I flew back and stayed at another ... well done guys ...

The location is the reason for staying at Monarch. Don't expect any services or amenities. Just a bed and a bathroom.
