I booked this hotel for my parents anniversary. Gave all bank details in advance that my parents don't have todeal with a receptionist (they can't speak french nor english). Booking was confirmed but when my parents arrived 11 o'clock night, the hotel was full. I had to call the reception many times and they just told me they can't do anything about it. They were not nice to me on the phone , giving me feeling that it's my fault (shouting at me back when I was shouting). I t was so late and I was really stressed as my parents were. So latenight in strange city, strange country with zero knowledge of any international language. They had to take taxi and go to more expensive hotel without breakfast which was far away from the city centre and they had to pay cash. I feel realy ashamed that they anniversary was destroyed in the first hour...

The staff at the Grand Hotel de l'Avenue are friendly and speak English well, and those we interacted with the most went out of their way to give us suggestions on what to see/do during our trip. Their recommendations were spot on - they know the city well, and we were able to learn about fantastic places thanks to them. The elevator wasn't working the first day we were there, but was functioning during the remainder of our week-and-a-half stay. Our room was on the cozy-side, but that's to be expected at hotels in big cities, nothing surprising. Our hotel room was on the third floor and our windows were facing the street - we could hear some street traffic during the mornings when our windows were shut, but it wasn't that loud at all for us. Our room had hardwood floors, a double bed, a bit of closet-space on both sides of the bed, a small desk, and small TV. Hotel Wifi was free, and while it wasn't high-speed internet, it suited our purposes fine (browsing, checking email). Our bathroom was spacious and looked like it was recently remodeled, no bathtub, but everything worked well. Very conveniently located. The Republique metro station was a 2-3 minute walk away, and has 5 lines going through it. There is a laundry facility within 2 blocks, and a Monop' convenience store within 1 block. We've already recommended this hotel to our friends, and would definitely stay here again if we come back to Paris for another visit.

A bit noisy but I slept well in a good bed anyway. the eleveator was broken and they were nice enough to put me in a room on the 1st floor so I did not need to lag my luggage up several floors.

Good basic room although looking a bit dated from the last time I stayed here. Very helpful staff and very handy location. No air conditioning.

Our room was on the fourth floor and the lift was not working. There was no one to take our luggage up. After requesting a lot the person at the reception took our luggage. When we were checking out, there was no one at all to bring our luggage down. After we spoke to the person and persuaded him, he sent some one from the kitchen to help us bring down the luggage. Climbing up and down 4 floors was not easy at all. I would not like to recommend this hotel to anyone. The location was too noisy. The only good part was that there was a supermarket close by and the metro station was not too far (I would not say too close as well).
