Grand Hotel Beijing
4.4 out of 5

Good location, very close to Wangfujing. Nice hotel room with classical Chinese furniture. Free internet service. But it is a bit difficult to get a taxi as the street in front of hotel doesn't allow taxi stop.

Good hotel, nothing spectacular, they will warm the pool water up if you ask - it was a bit cold first time. The Deluxe room is much bigger than other hotels and the bathroom a good size. Easy walk to Wangfujing shops and als to Forbidden City/Tiannenmen Square.

Exquisite in it's traditional Chinese style. I had a magnificent view of the Forbidden City from my room on the 8th floor. I was disappointed to learn that the top floor terrace was closed. Limited choice of Western TV channels.

An excellent location and facilities. I don't think that the training and management are as service oriented as in many other countries. The staff are obliging, but don't yet understand the level of client assistance that a 5 star hotel requires. Regardless, I would stay there again and I would book a palace view room. Despite the pollution, the view of the forbidden city is very moving. (please use my initials and not full name if publishing my comments.****)

Location was great- just outside the Forbidden City and within walking distance to the pedestrian shopping area. A great value for the price.

Grand Hotel is in a convenient area (close to Tiananmen and Forbidden City). The rate we got from asia-hotels.com was great. The hotel is very nice, with nightly live classic music performed. The only drawback was the staff. The English was ok but not great. More importantly, they were not friendly. Also we had reserved a non-smoking room but they tried to put us in a smoking room. It took 25 minutes of persistence to get them to move us into a non-smoking room; not a pleasant way to arrive in Beijing. A nice hotel, convenient area, good deal, but cold staff that took the joy out of staying there.

Nice hotel with a great location. Friendly staff always trying to be helpful and only a few glitches every now and then.

Excellent location being adjacent to Tianammen Square, however the rooms require extensive upgrades, decorations and cleaning to bring them up to International Standards. Expensive business centre services and old pool / fitness area were also negative aspects. The staff were very helpful and friendly when approached.

I was given a very small room in which the ventilation was not working. To make matters worse, workmen were using some volatile chemicals in the area. I spent a very uncomfortable first night. The next night they moved me to a new room but only after I complained twice.

We loved this hotel because of the ambience. It had an old China feel which is what we wanted for our trip. The staff helped us book a private trip to the Great Wall. The location was great for sightseeing and shopping. The rooms were clean and quiet and the restaurants had good food and we enjoyed the Peking Duck! It was very reasonable. I would stay there again without hesitation!

The view from our room was extraordinary, overlooking the Imperial City. The chamber orchestra in the grand atrium in the evenings was worth every penny of the stay. I found the rooms a bit tattered for a 5 star accommodation. The extra amenities were very expensive. It''s a perfect location for a short stay when you want to see a lot in a short time.
