Grand Chancellor Hotel Launceston

This hotel is centrally located, has friendly staff and is well serviced. The rooms are large and there is decent room service, broadband and films. The broadband is massively overpriced, though v. fast and reliable. The rooms are retro-fitted with individual air-conditioning units, which make a lot of noise. I couldn't sleep with it on, & found myself too hot at night, as I visited during a hot spell. A restaurant staffer was rude to me but everyone else I encountered from reception, to housekeeping, were friendly and helpful.

It advertised new beds, decor etc. but must of missed our room. Every other place we stayed in Tasmania we got free Wi-Fi but here you had to pay, so went to local McDonald s restuarant & got free Wi-Fi The amount you have to pay to stay at this hotel you would think that also could give you free Wi-Fi. Lift would not work sometimes, So would get out & use 2nd.lift. Dining was also expensive so went elsewhere. Regards Tony van Schooten

A little disappointing as I have stayed here several times a while ago and thought I would give it another go to compare where I usually now stay in Launceston. The television reception was a little hazy in the room I was in but it was a Flat screen TV with foxtel. The bathroom area was looking a little tired around the shower come bath. Car park is next door to hotel but has an extra charge attached if you use it. I questioned the receptionist on the charge and she said it has been there as long as she has worked there. It could have been her first day on the job for all I know. Internet is also a premium. This is why the rooms are a little cheaper. You can also get a discount on breakfast if you pay the night before. I did not bother.

Good room, quiet and the dining of an evening was first class with a good choice. Breakfast was just average. this hotel is centrally located for the keen shopper.

We had a room on the 5th floor (nice) but with a view of behind the hotel. This was still okay, except we had the lift noise all through the day and night (the whirring of mechanics) even though we were at least three rooms away. The staff were very accommodating but the room was definately one of their older ones. The bed was brilliant (massive!) and very comfy. The room had private air conditioning and heating which worked very well. Best of all was a pleasant walk along the river all the way to the Cataract Gorge. We did get a great price for the room so overall would recommend - just ask for a room that is away from the liftwell.

We were pleasantly surprised with the size of our room, great restaurant and friendly staff. We would stay at the Grand Chancellor Launceston any time in the future.

Only spent one night there, the room was comfortable and service good. The room service main meal was a little ordinary, althourgh the dessert was very nice. I would stay there again.

The location was fantastic, close to all the shops. The two things we didn't like were the portable airconditioning unit in the room - very noisy so you couldn't run at night and it therefore got very hot, plus I loathe showers in baths with shower curtains. Give me a walk in glass shower any day!
