Short walk to main shopping centre, markets and harbour on doorstep. I mentioned it was my wifes birthday when booking by phone and they upgraded me to corner suite and free champagen in room on arrival . Nice touch. Great views from superior harbour room and worth the extra. Slight communication problem with one male reception staff member.

I had stayed at this hotel a couple of times in past years on business trips but felt it was overpriced and the rooms very dated, hence I chose other newer properties in which to stay. However, the newly refurbished rooms are wonderful! This time, I stayed with my wife and 11 yo son, and the rooms are generous in size offering very good amenity. All staff we dealt with were exceptional - friendly, courteous and helpful - can't ask for more than that. Spaces in the car park are in high demand, so this can be an issue. As an unexpected bonus, our beds were advertised as double but are in fact queen size. I would definitely return to the Grand Chancellor in Hobart again.

top location, harbour view rooms have stunning views right across the estuary. A very clean, light hotel with very courteous staff. The Atrium is a great place to lounge with a huge glass windows looking out to the harbour. Highly recommended. Would stay there next time.

For this very first time we've stepped into Tasmania, the hotel staffs didn't fail to impress me with their hospitality. The receptionists were absolutely the friendliest ever and they were really helpful with guiding us to the places that we should visit in Tassie. It's located just beside the pier and located right in Hobart city. Walking distance to famous Salamanca market and Tassie wooden-made chopping board sold there were so beautiful. Do make sure you walk around before making your final decision. Cascade fruit juice sold in Tasmania were really good too. Highly recommended as it's the best bottled apple juice I've ever tried! This hotel has a suprisingly good restaurant too! It's called Tasman restaurant and they serve fine dining quality at a very reasonable price. Oysters were fantastic! Had a really enjoyable trip in Tassie with Hotel Chancellor, would definitely come back!

Needs double glazing on windows - gets noisy as its between two main roads. Great location. Some things not well thought out - eg water coming out of shower under glass door. Comfy bed. Not completely luxurious but good for location. Clean, reliable, safe. Go for harbour view - good. Ok value but at the top end you can find classier funkier trendier places a block away. Bit conservative but does the job. Aircon is not user friendly and VERY noisy - not climate controlled very well - start stop etc..... No common (master) light switches.

We only stayed overnight but found everything in very good order. Staff were friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and well appointed. The rooms with water views are more expensive but it is worth paying the price for great views of the harbour and the busy dockside life. The rooms at the rear, especially on lower levels are of a lesser standard all round. We would certainly stay at the hotel again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Staff were always friendly and helpful; location sensational. Walking distance to most of Hobart's main attractions. Restaurant/breakfast - ok, but not up to international standards (Hong Kong, Singapore).

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor Hotel, Hobart, for one night, in a Harbour View Room on the 12th Floor. The room was lovely, comfortable, and had everything you could want - including a superbly comfortable bed. The view was magnificent. However, the bathroom looked as though it had had a "half-way" renovation. Lovely granite floor with matching bench top. Wonderful 3-way mirror. BUT - an old bathtub, with mouldy tiles on the wall above, and a shower over the bath with a shower curtain. I spent my shower trying to stop the curtain from clinging to me! Most unpleasant. If this is the only style of bathroom, I would not stay there again.

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed at this hotel. The first time we were upgraded to a suite and gave us a 'taste' for better room types. This time we attended a function at the hotel with 120 other guests. Negative issues were a) the bar closing at 11.30pm and b) for those who had not arrived for the buffet breakfast prior to 10am missed out. The location is excellent and food at the Tasman Restaurant highly recommended (but not cheap if on a tight budget).

Great place to stay, walking distance to almost everything. Very helpful staff and the rooms looked like they had been renovated within the past few years, nice and modern. All in all, a great stay. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

We found the hotel to be very clean & reasonably priced with friendly staff and in a great location. The staff at the Tasman resturaunt , especially Teagan Magee, were very professional and the food amazing. The Chancellor was very accomodating, cant wait to vist again some day.
