Oberhausen Hotels

As a Ruhr area hub, Oberhausen is remarkably close to several other superb destinations in Germany. Düsseldorf, Duisberg, Köln (Cologne), Münster and Dortmund are all on Oberhausen’s doorstep, in addition to a host of smaller, yet exceedingly worthwhile, towns. A mere 14 km from Essen proper, Oberhausen is technically a separate city entirely and indeed, is home to a considerable populace of 215,000 people. As a stop on the European Route of Industrial Heritage, Oberhausen’s spectacular Gasometer is the most conspicuous landmark in the city. While not quite the equal of the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex outside of Essen, the Oberhausen linchpin punctuates a tidy ensemble of attractions that includes the fabulous Ludwig Gallerie Schloss, Rheinisches Industriemuseum and cool refurb CentrO development. Oberhausen’s Sea Life Centre was home, for a time, to the late 2010 FIFA World Cup prognosticator, Paul the Octopus.
