Kiel Climate

With an oceanic climate influenced by its location near the water, Kiel has warm summers from June through August with temperatures averaging 68°F to 72°F (20°C to 22°C). Snowfall occurs about twice during the winter, which goes from December through February. Low temperatures in the area hover around 29°F to 32°F (-1.4°C to 0°C).

Getting There & Around

The nearest international airport is the Hamburg Airport, located less than two hours south of Kiel. From Hamburg, visitors can reach the city by car or rail. Since the city is situated near the A7, an important pan-European motorway, it is easily accessed by vehicle.

Getting around Kiel is best by hired car, taxis, walking or trains for farther destinations. Visitors can travel to Hamburg, Lübeck and Flensburg within a day from the city’s central rail station.
