My wife and I chose to spend our honeymoon here mostly on the basis of good ratings from a number of travel sites. We knew that we wanted to stay in the Napa/Sonoma area but we were not terribly familiar with the area so location was a shot in the dark. We arrived late on a Monday evening and my wife was a little put off. The person at the front desk was low key and checked us in rapidly but there was no one to take our bags or explain how the heat worked in the room (it was cold). Also, there was not wine in the room or "congratulations it's your honeymoon" fanfare. The next morning, we went to breakfast (which begins at 8:30AM) and talked with the front desk to plan our day. This was also a little disconcerting to my wife who is used to dealing with a Concierge Desk that typically books everything on our behalf. From this point forward, we loved the place. The size of the room, bed, bathroom, fire-place, in-room french-press coffee, and location were wonderful. Glen Ellen is a sleepy little town with good proximity to Napa and Sonoma Wineries. There are also excellent wineries within a few miles and one within walking distance. We were really glad that we did not stay in Napa proper because it seemed crowded and busy. We were able to visit during the day, then retreat to this lovely quiet location. The only down side is that you don't want to go to a late dinner at a Napa Restaurant, then drive back to Glen Ellen. The roads between the two locations are dark, twisty, mountain roads which are fun by day but not so much at night. Fortunately there are excellent restaurants in Glen Ellen and Sonoma. The Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen is particularly good. To summarize, the room/suite was really lovely. The bathroom and bed were especially nice. The location is quiet and low key. Don't expect a "high-touch" east coast hotel experience but that is a gift in and of itself.
