Frenchmans Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort St. Thomas Guest Reviews
I had read some of the past comments regarding issues prior to its major renovation. However, we stayed here right after all of this was finished, so the hotel was pretty much as good as new. The pool areas, lounge, restaurants, room, all were very clean and modernized. The infinity pool was superb! I think it makes a whole lot of difference when to stay, as many hotels were originally built a while back, and some are showing signs of it (in a negative way). Anyway, I think this hotel is probably the best one to go now for the above reasons.

We had a terrific stay at the MArriott Frenchman's Reef. Hotel is beautiful, even had XMAS decor. Stayed in an ocean view room w/balcony in main building-5th floor that was completely renovated. Watched boats(Fury/The Cat/Water taxi) &cruise ships daily. The four pools were fabulous-2 infinity pools were awesome. Didn't feel crowded at hotel at all. Front desk personnel friendly. Adventure desk helpful, but we booked a daysail prior online so didn't use their services. Ate at Coco Joes, restaurant right on the beach twice, somewhat expensive lunch- $70 for 2 adults, 2 teens, but food was very good. Pulled pork sliders and fish and chips were very good, staff was personable. Everything is very laid back, be very friendly and cordial to staff and it will be returned to you.Having visited other hotel's beaches on this trip, the beach is clean and quite large. Towels and beach chairs/umbrellas free to guests, just give your towel card to staff at towel hut(2 towels per card)and when you return them you get card back for next day. Had a valet charge(shouldn't have, we didn't have a car) and it was taken care of immediately.Only negatives- frozen drinks $11 each, have to take taxi everywhere, $6-$10 per person one way.

This resort really delivers the best value for your buck! Overall I was quite pleased, the location on the waterfront is fantastic! Several areas of the hotel boast great panoramic views of St. Thomas (especially nice at night), staff is always seeking to please and are very accomodating, and your own beach and great restaurants are nearby. BEWARE THEIR AQUA TERRA RESTAURANT ON SITE THE 3RD FLOOR!!! Food was of horrendous quality and, by the way, the decor was hideous. You could easily find much much better food at those same prices. Other inconveniences: unusually long wait at the reception counter, their adventure center staff lacked knowledge on many of the island's attractions (rather shockingly), and Morningstar Beach was ordinary (Chicago has prettier beaches than Morningstar I think).

This was my third trip to Frenchman's Reef. The first 1980 and the second 2005. The hotel was exellent in both of those years. It is now a mess. I understand they are getting cranked back up from being shutdown for six months for a massive rennovation and are phasing things in. However, there is no excuse for the rudeness of their staff and just plain "I don't care if you like us or not" attitude. There is really only one restaurant open in the hotel and the food is average but the service is very slow and again the same attitude. The concierge got many details of bookings wrong and seemed not to be able to remember details no matter how often repeated. My room had a glass door out to the balcony which would not open and the table on the balcony had no glass top. The bathroom floor lookekd like it was not mopped during the whole week's stay. The noise of the service staff started at 6:00 each morning and they talked loud, laughed and shouted to each other never thinking about their sleeping guests. I iwill never stay at this hotel again. It is sad because it was once the best.
