Accessible from myriad destinations within France, most notably the TGV direct from Paris or Lille, the commune of Agde is notable as the Mediterranean climax of the UNESCO World Heritage Canal du Midi. The community of 20,000 people is also a de facto twin of nearby Sète, a vital resort and seaport city some 25 km to the east that offers car-ferry access to Morocco. Agde’s pedestrian promenades provide attractive fodder for avid amblers, with inherent River Hérault panoramas and curious black basalt landmarks. Cap d’Agde however, is the town’s exceptional tourist magnet. The main resort area is a short 6 km drive from Agde proper and while the familial Village Naturiste, or “Naked City”, is a flagship feature, other points of interest lure visitors in as well. The first-rate Musée de l'Éphebe is one, in addition to the Aquarium Cap d’Agde and a premier resort golf course.
