Flatotel Hotel New York
5 out of 5

We spent 4 great nights. The hotel is fantastically situated, the suite truly great and the staff wonderful. It was very sad to learn that the hotel will be closing in February. Can't think why. We would certainly want to stay there again. Brian + Eva James Johannesburg South Africa

The location could not be better, it is within walking distance to most of the major attractions. The room was clean and comfortable with all the amenities with excellant service from the staff. A top hotel, we would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced and comfortable place to stay. We would stay again, a really enjoyable experience.

We stayed here for four nights recently and the room was adequate and within great wlking distance to Times Square. The staff were rude and the complimentary continental breakfast is nothing to write home about. The lights in some of the lamps were not working and although we asked a few times, the bulbs were never replaced, but tips were always expected! Would we stay there again? Maybe, but only for the location. Do not think this hotel is a 4 star rating at all.

From the moment we arrived staff made us feel like guests. Nothing was too much bother. The hotel was clean and very comfortable. The location was excellent being near everything but in a quieter street. I would go back and would have no hesitation in recommending to a friend.

The Flatotel was a low key, no drama, comfortable stay for our 5 night vacation in NYC. The hotel is a short walk from Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park. It is also super close to several subway lines, so the location was perfect for our stay. The room was clean, staff friendly, nice complimentary breakfast, hot showers, and heater worked great. It met our standards, and our budget! I would recommend this place to a friend.

This hotel can't be sold and purchased as a 4 star hotel. They have room service only before 10 am!!!After that you even can't order a cup of tea!!!!!There is just no room service during the day!!!!!!And if you get there ill or need water asap there is no chance that you get one. Wouldn't recommend to stay there. There are many other better options for approximately the same price!!

I was happy to be in this good location but this hotel needs a revamp. A shower that drizzels water is annoying and seeing clip toe nails in the carpet and waiting forever for a lift will have me looking at another hotel next time.

The hotel was in such a great location. It was a short walk to the theaters, Time Square and Rockefeller Center among other must see locations. Our room was clean, but the mattress was very hard and the secondary lock on the door was broke and no hair dryer in the room (what is up with that). The lobby is a cocktail lounge with the reception desk in the corner...great ambience at night. The front desk staff were very polite and helpful. The second shift porters and front door staff were rude, but day shift was great. Recommend if you are like us and only need to sleep because you are out in the city most of the time and don't need a ton of hotel amenities.

Our vents smelled like someone was smoking right next door the whole time, even after we complained to the staff. It was supposed to be non-smoking, but we had to keep the bathroom closed because it was so strong and spent as little time in the bathroom that we could. The fitness room had a great view, but the only bike available was broken. Otherwise it was a great place, nice people and great location.

Over all this hotel was fine, but there were some concerns. The couch was a solid light color, and had very evident stains. We had to ask several times for a blanket or throw to cover it just to feel comfortable sitting on it. Other than that, room was clean. Amenities were supposed to include a coffee pot, again, we had to ask twice before they brought us one, and then they just brought decaf coffee. Also had to ask for wash cloths which they forgot to leave for us. Bathroom was large and very nice. Staff was overall friendly, although my husband's room key did not work, and they gave him a hastle about replacing it!

In the city for several days for vacation. Hotel location was perfect - merely block(s) away from everything, including food, tourist spots, and subway. Staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I was initially given a smoking room, but upon request they moved me to a non-smoking room for the duration of my stay. Very pleased, would stay here again in a heartbeat. The lobby is fantastic. The hallways leave a little to be desired (older looking carpet, walls/doors could use a paint job), but the actual rooms and bathrooms are great.

The hotel was perfectly located for a first time visit to NY as it was near time square and central park. They were a little bit unflexable with the accomodations as I tried to upgrade to twin beds which would have cost me $100 more nightly. (seems high). The fan in the bathroom was not working but other than that the room was fine. Nice bar in the lobby and a happenin happy hour in the outdoor bar/restraunt MODA. Oh yea they have complementry breakfast which I didn't expect not bad.

Location was excellent, close to theatre district. Given by mistake a smoking room, then was changed to room with problem with air conditioning. Front end supervisor finally got us a nice room. Lobby nothing to write home about. Front End Superviser very helpful.

I recently stayed at the Flatotel, and while it isn't a bad hotel, it wasn't great- and DEFINITELY not 4-star.A decent sized boutique-ish hotel, it's run more like a small chain hotel with boutique "looks" - i.e. contemporary furniture, not a lot of frou-frou, etc. How they got the four stars on travel sites, however, is beyond me.A continental breakfast was an empty bowl of fruit (all gone but two pieces, both mornings I tried), a few TINY pastries, and bagels. There were no plates (another customer actually went into the kitchen to grab a stack for others), they were out of coffee (in the self-serve pots) for more than 20 minutes, and on the third day there was nowhere to sit, and although the lobby has a bar and no one was there, the staff didn't want me to grab a coffee and bagel and eat it there. On to rooms... the first I was given was about 85-degrees, although the AC was full blast. It also had no wifi signal (the company advertises being "free wifi throughout the hotel"), and when I called down I was told "someone will bring you a cable." "Umm... I have a Macbook Air, it doesn't have ethernet; how about if the wifi works as promised?" Long story short, they moved me to another (thankfully cooler) room. An "accessible" room, which was fine, albeit a bit odd, with everything so low and very wide doors...On the good side, the woman ([...], I believe) who authorized the room swap was VERY nice, as was the concierge and about half of the people I talked to at the front. (The others weren't bad, just had typical NY and/or gay attitude- and don't start screaming, I'm gay myself.) Overall the hotel could desperately use some updates; things just seemed a bit "gray" and worn down. They also don't offer 24-hour room service (again, 4-stars???), nor did they offer me any suggestions of nearby restos or menus. There was nothing in my mini bar - in fact it was turned off - and the tiny closet of a store in the lobby closes early. For the price - which wasn't bad, but also not the cheapest - I could have definitely found something better in the same area. Perhaps not as "boutique," but...3-star, maybe. Not horrible but would go with another brand next time.

We went to New York for sightseeing and the location of the hotel was just amazing. Only a few minutes walk to Time Square, Chrysler Building, Radio City and many others. The hotel staff was very friendly and responded to request very quick. The room was huge, the bed comfy and everything was very clean.
