Travellers can enjoy many attractions like the City Theatre of Oulu, the Botanical Gardens and the Zoological Museum. There is also shopping, tasty restaurants and scenic outdoor areas. The beach and campground of Nallikari is a great summer-time place to take friends and family, and it is only a short walk from the city's centre. When To Go
With its close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Stream, the climate in Finland is considered to be mostly temperate. Summers are warm and comfortable, whilst winters are dark and extremely cold. In the months of June through August, the weather is nice and sunny in Oulu. However, it may rain, so visitors should pack an umbrella and a light jacket. In Oulu during the middle of summer, the sun stays above the horizon continuously for several weeks, one reason for the many festivals during this time. As for winter in Oulu, it can get quite chilly, so heavyweight winter clothes are a must.

Getting There
Oulu Airport is the busiest in the country of Finland. Flights to Helsinki take about an hour, and there are generally 15 daily flights. There are flights directly to Riga, Tampere and other cities from Oulu as well. The airport in Helsinki serves as a transfer point for numerous international spots. The Oulu Airport is located close to the centre of the city, and visitors can reach their accommodations by a regular bus service.
Oulu is on the main railway line between the cities of Helsinki and Rovaniemi. The journey from Oulu to Helsinki takes less than seven hours on the fast trains, whilst the sleeper trains are slower, taking about nine hours.
By bus, Oulu can be reached from Helsinki, and it takes about nine to 15 hours. The railway station is right in the city centre and is easily accessed by passengers coming to and from Oulu.
