Fairmont Peace Hotel

the hotel is superb, but once you get in your room it's fairly simple to see the decay of this formerly world's best hotel. all resembles to be stuck in the eighties, but still it's an amazing place to understand the history of shanghai and it's definely well located near all the major highlights.

As we arrived late, we've had the chance to be upgraded. What a surprise when we arrived in the room, not clean and very "old fashion" ... Anyway, this hotel is very good located in Shanghai and has a very nice coffee shop on the roof top [Your website] is very efficient !!! Congretulations !

This is an old hotel, and while the bedroom was charming, comfortable and spacious, some things need to be updated - e.g unfortunately the bathroom was very smelly because of the drains. Also the toilet took forever (at least half an hour) to fill up after flushing. I also complained about a light in the bathroom which needed fixing - it kept flashing on and off - but this was not repaired.

This hotel is in top location in Shanghai. It is right opposite the "Bund" or river front and on the corner of the main road. It is in two sections opposite one another. The oldest, The Peace South built in 1906, and the other built in 1926. They have old world charm with modern facilities.

I was only there for 2 nights and it was the first time I had visited China. I was disappointed with the food at dinner/lunch My bedroom was rather gloomy and looked inwards onto a services area

Food prices too high in their restuarants and quality only average. Room too dark and poorly light.

Old world charm (1926), loads of character and very comfortable. Staff excellent and concierge has good knowledge of things to do in Shanghai. Great location on the Bund. Restaurants very good but breakfast buffet very average for westerners. Do need to request a queen or king size bed if required as a double room generally means twin singles. Executive floor rooms excellent and complimentary broadband a bonus. North Tower rooms and facilities far superior to South Tower (annexe across the road).

Nice place with a lot of character. Spacious rooms. Step out the door into prime tourist area, with many interesting things within easy walking distance.

It is sad that this historic hotel is being managed so bad. Only the lobby area is nice and clean and well kept. The rest of the hotel is run down and under poor management. This hotel certainly needs some professionel managament and a huge make over.

The holiday traveller is made very welcome in a superb Bund , waterfront location where the staff enjoy their work, and are proud of their historic property and their energetic city. The older world style, location and high service standards would be hard to match elsewhere. There's a substantial feel of European old hotel style and grace mixed with China charm, without all the lavish frills.

We found the staff to be very friendly and most helpful. The room was very clean and attractive. We could exchange our American Express travelers checks right in the hotel into local money. A large Bank of China is right around the corner. Busses are close by.

I have travelled a lot all over the world and I can tell you that I rank your hotel as one of the best, I specially love the "mood"; it is like the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, an old hotel which preserves the quality but at the same time it is not a monster of glass and concrete.

Congratulations. Perhaps the only thing you need is for your staff to be a little less "professional" and more warm.

The location on the Bund and so close to shopping streets make this location great. I found it very easy to travel around the city from the hotel. It is nice to visit a bit of history.

Yes, I would recommend the hotel. However, the personnel must improve their command of English; and some of them (mainly those at the concierge area, a woman specially), must try to understand the wishes of your customers and try to help them.

I was a guest for only a short time, but have no complaints whatsoever. The standard of the room was excellent, the facilites were very good, and the staff were helpful. I had read other reviews and noted comments about the poor quality of the breakfast, but I thought it was OK, and I''m not that easily pleased (the orange juice did, however, leave a lot to be desired!). However, the experience of eating in the magnificent Dragon Room would make up for any shortcomings with regard to the food or service! The building is a stunning example of art deco design and architecture (the third hotel of its kind I have stayed at in Shanghai, and the best) and, for that reason, I loved every minute of my stay. I cannot recommend the Peace Hotel highly enough, and have already sung its praises to other business travellers whom I know will be in Shanghai in the future. Definitely 5-star value.

The south building does not have non-smoking rooms. Our shower door was leaky, so taking a shower flooded the entire bathroom floor.
