Location
The Fairmont is located in downtown Santa Monica, overlooking the Pacific and within walking distance of the Santa Monica Pier. A drive up the Pacific Coast Highway leads to Malibu and the restored Getty Villa. The Getty Centre and Westwood Memorial park are only a few miles away.

The hotel exudes a quiet elegance. Its low rise building with the magnificent fig tree at the entrance is like a hill station in a Somerset Maugham novel. Fig restaurant is atmospheric and good. Staff are top notch from valet to housekeeping.

The Hotel was very nice. The location was great. The cost was a bit high, but I may be a bit frugal. My only issue was the tub drain was rather slow. Ended up standing in water before the shower was over. I did mention it to the concierge, and they sent someone to clear it. It did not work. I would have been happier if they had offered me a free day of parking, but they did not.
