Euro hostel Edinburgh Halls
4 out of 5

I stayed here with my friends in Edinburgh. The rooms were adequate, although a bit small and dingy compared to some other student accommodation at Scottish universities. We really appreciated the kitchen facilities, which were very nice. The central location is great for getting to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and night life in the Old Town. However, because of its proximity to bars, there is a lot of noise from people returning home during the wee hours of the morning, so those seeking a good night's sleep would be better off staying in a quieter, more residential area.

bedrooms need mirrors. bedrooms need washbasins. 'Apartment' is a total misnomer - it is a room, with access to communal bathrooms and kitchen/lounge. Bedroom waste bins should be emptied daily - this means weekends as well.

I stayed for 8 days and my bedsheet was not changed at all! Also, I only had one towel change when I asked for it! To be honest, for the price I paid at this hostel, I could have gotten a better environment down the road with Breakfast thrown in! This place is nice and basic.

Euro Hostels in Edinburgh is a bargain, especially during the Festival. You get what you pay for of course, and I was lucky enough to have a room off street so it was quiet. Shared bathrooms clean, with loads of hot water!

Felt this hostel was overpriced. Stayed in a similar hostel in Glasgow which included breakfast for a lot less. I was located on the 4th floor and had to lug bags up a lot of stairs. The room was very basic. The locks were old and hard to work. It was in a very noisy part of town. There were two positives - one the location - proximity to The Royal Mile and central Edinburgh, and secondly the staff were very accommodating and friendly.

When booking via internet, you get value for money (61 euro per night for 2 persons). However, when booked directly at the reception the price is far much higher which will give you less value for money (77 euro per night for 2 persons). So, tip: book upfront via internet!

If your on a budget, then this is the place to stay. Cheap, clean and friendly. However, it can be quite noisy until the early hours if your room fronts on to the main street. I would definately stay here again.
