Empress Hotel Chiang Mai
4 out of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in November 2011. It's a good hotel located reasonably close to the old city (tuk tuk ~60 bht), night bazaar (10 min walking) and the river. The hotel is clean if a bit dated. The breakfast buffet is pretty good.

Beautiful hotel at a reasonable price. Breakfast buffet provided a wide range of selection of delicious food. We returned to the hotel in the evening exhausted from a day of events, so we ordered room service which was very reasonable priced, served in less than an hours time and was very good.

Have stayed at Empress many times the past five years. Each year there are improvements. Now the basic rooms have new carpet and bathrooms. Great value. Cheaper on Asia Hotels than hotel web site. Easy booking, great stay. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Hard to fault - some of the rooms on the discount floors are looking a little tired, but overall very good value for money. Excellent buffet breakfast. Just a few minutes walk to the the 'night market/stalls'. Good safe area of town. Ideal for families.

Very nice rooms, except there was no safety box in my type of room although claimed in the description. The facilities are good, and the breakfast is excellent. Location is also great - within walking distance of most things. Staff is friendly. The wireless Internet did not work at first, which was really annoying when you have to work. On the other hand, the price for using the Internet was very fair compared to other hotels of this standard.

Very kind and helpful service. The hotel is very nice and pleasant. It has a nice pool, nice and clean rooms, and a good breakfast. It is located 15 minutes walk from the Night Bazar (use a Tuk Tuk for ~1$). The service is extremely good and all the stuff members are very kind. Very good value. I will definitely come back to this hotel.

The hotel is good value for money but is a little bland. Its location is not ideal, although the night market area is walk-able. Having stayed in the Tamarind resort previously, I would recommend being located within the city''s ancient wall, as this is where Chiang Mai is most interesting.

Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at the hotel. The location, although not ideal, is close enough to the night bazaar yet not too near to get the congested feeling.

Very nice and helpful staff. Perfect location in a quiet place and not too far from city center by walk. Swimming pool is not deep but very pleasant and fitness center is big and well maintained. I had a very pleasant stay and I''ll certainly return.

Nice place to stay, though a bit away from the main tourist area. The staff is very helpful and courteous. Got an upgrade to the exec floor.

I was unable to stay on my reservation that I made through asiahotels.com, because the Empress doesn''t recognized the agent. So, I had to pay a new room. The Empress manager recommend me to request a REFUND of $144.00 back to my credit card. All I need now is asiahotels.com to return $144.00 to my credit card as soon as possible. I was a bit angry...

Very good hotel and great value for money. The breakfast buffet is good. Despite the distance from the Night Bazaar, it''s well located since the city isn''t so big and you can go anywhere by Tuk-Tuk. If you prefer to take a walk it''s okay, since around the hotel there is some good and cheap massage houses that will bring great relief to your feet.

Although the decor in the room was fairly nice, the carpet was well past its renewal time. Also we had work being carried out below our room which was very noisy. This noise carried on to 11pm at night. In fact they did not stop until I complained. I did not even a sorry from the manager with regards to this. Overall my stay was not the happiest. There was serveral other small incidents that really did not make my day.

Great hotel, great location. This hotel handles a lot of people and does an outstanding job of it. Breakfasts are a real treat. Eggs made to order or omelets of your choice. This is the second time I have stayed at the hotel and will stay there next time I visit Chiang Mai.

You could probably do acceptably cheaper but for an easy going, good clean hotel well within access to the night bazzar the Empress is certainly recommended.
