Edinburgh City Hotel
4 out of 5

The hotel is comfortable and historical. The room was bigger than I expected. It is not really centrally located but is a nice enough walk to the main attractions. Only down side was that the room was not ready on arrival (nearly midday) and I had to wait until 2pm. I am not sure that any effort was made to put me in a room earlier than this.

We booked Edinburgh City Hotel for its proximity to The Usher Hall which was 5 minute walk away. Very clean, great friendly professional staff throughout. Comfortable airy room. Had evening meal which was very good and excellent value, breakfast just as good. Would not hesitate to stay again. If you are a light sleeper and want a lie in ask for a room off Laurieston Place as traffic may wake you from 7am ish. Princes Street is a 10 to 15 min walk for those who can't stay out of shops.

Had to shout for someone to check us in, as no bell and no one around. Room was spacoius, modern and clean. Not enough coat hangers, and TV which was supposed to have over 50 channels, only had good reception on 3. Soap, toilet rolls, biscuits etc, not replaced daily to how they were when we checked in. Hotel in great location for old town, about 10 min walk, and can walk back from new town along a main road in about 15 mins. Number 35 bus goes to very near hotel direct from airport for only £1,40.

Hotellin sijainti hyvä, viiden minuutin matkan päässä linnasta. Aamianen hyvä hintaansa nähden, ehkä hieman sekava aamiaislista. Talvella huone ajoittain viileä, vessa pysyvästi kylmä.

Stayed for three nights in the Edinburgh City Hotel a couple weeks ago. Have to say that we were very pleasantly surprised by this place. Booked a double room last minute, but on arrival staff at reception very gladly gave us a twin room when we asked if any were available. The room was super clean, staff were all helpful and obliging (especially one of the trainees, she took the time to answer all our questions), and the location was absolutely fine. It was very good value for money and I would be happy to stay there again.

My experiences at this hotel were great. The Royal Mile was a short walk and other sights were easily accessible by local buses. The staff was very helpful by answering all my questions. Breakfast was a treat with three fully cooked, Scottish choices. My room was clean and cozy with great internet access.

Very easy to find location of this hotel. It's near Tollcross and close to most attractions in Edinburgh. Grassmarket, Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile and almost everything inbetween all within short walking distance. Get cafe called Two Thin Laddies at the main intersection of Tollcross (maybe justover a block away). Amazing breakfasts and lunches affordable prices. The hotel is JUST off the beaten path. Very quiet and little foot traffic. Staff was very helpful. I recommend

We were supposed to stay at the Best Western, but when we arrived we were told they had no rooms and we were sent to the Novotel down the block. We were not happy about this, since we had been travels for over 20 hours and just wanted to get into our room. The other hotel was fine, but we expected to stay at the hotel we had chosen.

Excellent location, large room comprising couch, coffee table and plenty of space to move around. Large bathroom with two sinks and shower / bath. Tea & coffee making facilities which always helps and staff happy to provide extra. Free internet in the lobby. Great place to act as a base. Would definitely stay again.

Very large and nice room in an average hotel. Good location, walking distance to sights. Restoration ongoing, a bit disturbing. Boring breakfast and not at all cosy restaurant and bar. But over all worth the price.

Good: Hotel allowed us to park our luggage in a locked room when we were too early for check in. Hotel room is spacious. We were given fresh towels (which were placed at the door) even though we had the "do not disturb" sign on. Bad: This hotel seems to be understaffed at the reception. We are a couple but were given a room with 2 single beds, instead of a Queen/King bed. There were no entrance to the lobby from the main road, so everyday we had to walk the extra distance to the small lane.

This hotel was perfect for us as it was a short walk to Tattoo, Castle and central attractions. The staff on reception were very welcoming and friendly. We had breakfast at a half priced deal and was excellent, although we wouldn't have paid full price as was expensive compared to a lot of other hotels wev'e stayed at over the last 10 weeks.

We stayed in the Thistle St James on the Sunday night and have to say the the Best Western service and breakfast was far superior and value for money. The staff in the Thistle were Scottish and very unfriendly which is not a good advert for Scotland. We will definitely book into a Best Western again.
