The East Design Hotel St.Pauli is located on a parallel street to the Reeperbahn, the famous Red light district in Hamburg.

East Hotel was indeed a design experience! Perhaps slightly over-designed for my personal taste, but very hip and cool. The breakfast was very good, as was the dinner in their reastaurant in the evening - I can definitely recommend the tuna steak!

This is a wonderful hotel, also doubling as a very popular night spot (I've never had to get past bouncers to get to a hotel reception before). The design is amazing, very organic, very Gaudi - not sure if it was my taste, but I love that it was different to the usual business hotels I go to. The breakfasts are great, although on a Sunday in particular they can be extremely busy with non-residents coming in for a big Sunday breakfast. It's location isn't perfect in terms of proximity to the centre, but we didn't find it a problem - the Reeperbahn is "interesting" and there is a station right outside to the centre of Hamburg. The Harbour is also pretty close and St Michael's Church is just down the road. It was about 25 Euros by taxi to/from the airport if you are interested (including tip).

Room was beautiful, large and fun. Not all rooms have laptop connections or wi-fi - a bit of a shame in this day and age.
