DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London - West End
4 out of 5

all in all the hotel was very good. The reason we didn't give it a 5 star rating is the price was higher then some comparables (sold out because we booked late), didn't have a hair dryer - for $200 a night we expected a hair dryer - and the pillows were feathered and I got a couple uncomfortable pokes. On the positive side the location is great, right off the Holbrorn Underground station just north of the city. Internet access costs 16 pounds a day with decent speed. Staff was great and met every need. Hope this helps.

Great location. Room is small. No desk. But it's very neat.

Besides a great location and a great room, we had the double delight of the Executive Suits. Great breakfast buffet and evening hors d'ouevres, coupled with a great venue for business meetings.

Excellent value for money. Nothing fancy but everything that you need and should find at this price; unlike many other hotels in this part of London in this price range and higher. Very good buffet breakfast with wide selection and attentive and helpful staff.

When I was first shown into the room, the heating would not work and again with the second room, the third room was heated but there was a loud humming noise coming from near the window, then on our 4th move after a couple of hours the room was then perfect. I would stay again but the hotel needs to get rooms working in all aspects.

Akiko at the front desk can be charming and gracious, which makes for a nice stay does it not?

Air conditioning was inadequate. The staff turned off the air conditioning and opened the curtains each day in a heat wave, warming the room beyond cooling. The hallway was always cooler than the room. The staff was generally agreeable, but the level of service was low and the staff was not always well trained.

Hotel was in good location as far as getting to tubes and being able to walk to British Museum, Soho and Covent Garden areas. Accomodation was ok, room a bit small Scored facilities average as didn't use any other than room Charge of £5/hour to access internet was a RIP OFF!

Reasonable hotel, undergoing refurbishment. My room was clean and well decorated - although the bathroom had been retiled the paint work was old, so not sure if this is the finished product or not. Staff friendly, no mini bar. Bed comfortable, room warm but air con works - but like most hotels v noisy. Just as well the windows open. And at least the bathroom had a window - which is a plus these days for the price. Lighting reasonable and at least the hairdryer plugs in in front of a mirror - which can be a problem in a lot of more expensive hotels. For an overnight business trip a good location and a reasonable price - value for money.

The location of the hotel is very good and the reception, bar and restaurant areas are truly 4 star. However, our stay was hampered by the fact we were given a room next to a stock room and it was incredibly noisy with people going to and from it all day with trolleys. The room was rather small and although the decor was very nice, I personally did not think the price we paid could justify the room we got. Also, breakfast was very expensive (£16.50 per person) but due to the location, we were able to find reasonable places to eat.

I enjoyed my time at this hotel. Within a few minutes' walk of London supermarkets (like Sainsbury's), value-for-money family & pub dining, park areas including children's playgrounds at Coram's Fields, Holborn and Russell Square Tube stations - those who like a longer stroll can walk all the way to Covent Garden if they want to! (I did.) An ideal location if you don't mind paying a little more than average room rates for 4-stars - even if you have kids! The only reason I didn't rate most things "Very good" was simply because I'd stayed in an even better hotel while in Paris. Plus, the room (double) was quite compact. Not suitable if you like lots of space to move around while inside your hotel room! Some of the male hotel staff could have been a bit more warm in their meet-greet manner (speaking as a single female traveller who always notices such things). But I liked it, & if (a) there were any good deals going AND (b) I ever returned to London, I would definitely stay again!

Good location for West end of London. Pleasant staff. Room was comfortable and quiet. Room swipe card system a little annoying as it failed on us twice within 24 hours so we couldn't gain access to our room without returning to reception. Would stay again though.
