Sibenik General Information

While Split is the rightful unequivocal heart of Dalmatia, the historic region of Croatia offers other worthwhile destinations to consider. One such gem is the handsome city of Sibenik. Home to over 50,000 people, the capital of Sibenik-Knin County resides snugly where the Krka River spills into the Adriatic Sea. This fortuitous location blesses Sibenik with a glut of innate charm and slakes the wanderlust of many a visitor. ... Read more »

As far as tourist attractions go, the triple-nave Cathedral of St. James is sovereign. One of only six cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Croatia, the basilica is a brilliant fusion of Gothic and Renaissance design, and Florentine, Northern Italian and Dalmatian aesthetics. Other remarkable points of interest in Sibenik include four late medieval citadels and Krka National Park. A version of Plitvic Lakes National Park in miniature, Krka has exceptional fauna and flora, waterfalls, historic monuments and archaeological sites to discover. Kornati Islands National Park too, is a place of considerable natural beauty. The dense chain of 140 islands is a pristine wildlife and marine preserve, though one island in particular, Kornat, spans two-thirds of the archipelago. Access to the national park from Sibenik is hassle-free and relatively affordable. Those who stick to the city should venture to harbour-side cafés and restaurants and Sibenik’s fanciful antique shops.
