Crikvenica General Information
A mere forty minutes from Rijeka on the Adriatic Sea coast, picturesque Crikvenica offers tranquil escape and easy access to some of Croatia’s most extraordinary points of interest. Like many towns on the Adriatic, Crikvenica began life as a monastic settlement in the early 15th century. From the mid- to late 19th century, a flurry of publicity about the Adriatic coast’s curative effects led to the development of fashionable resorts like Opatija, where Hapsburgs fled to melt away the inherent trials and trepidations of Imperial rule. Crikvenica, whose attractive church and Pauline Fathers Roman Catholic monastery were already on the radar, did not escape notice. By the turn of the 20th century, the seaside hamlet had become à la mode as a health resort. Fast-forward a century later and Crikvenica still beguiles countless summer tourists with a magnificent mix of beaches, spas and the odd historic landmark. Consider access to superb Krk island and other points of interest on the Bay of Kvarner a remarkable bonus.
