We enjoined very much the stay at the hotel, however the abundance of homeless in the street, makes the walking to be very unpleasant.

Even though booking was prebooked, two rooms, three nights. Because I do not use credit cards whilst on holiday, staff would not let me take occupation of rooms until $1000.00 U.S. cash was paid. Then complained when I was checking out that they had to pay me in cash. Also the hotel power went off at 7am, no provision for backup system. All rooms/corridors were unlit.Breakfast room was locked, only cold food was available when it eventually opened. Not what I would expect from a four star rated hotel.

Wonderful, clean and friendly hotel centrally located and with wonderful, happy staff. There is a free shuttle, taxis at the door, good continental breakfast & lots of good cheap restaurants in the area and pretty much every taxi ride we took cost $10 or less regardless of what direction we went to the sites and districts. Don't be put off by it's location - yes there is a high number of homeless in the area but its safe and a little bit of understanding of the other side of life won't hurt your travel experience! I travelled here with my 13 year old daughter and we wandered home through the streets at night (as late as 10 with her, later on my own) and never felt threatened. Its a great hotel! Special mention to Veronique for her happy welcoming smile and to Anton for his wonderful restaurant tips!

I really liked the hotel, nice rooms, good breakfast included. But the way to it from town (via Ellisstreet) is a bit rough... thats the only drawback.

the hotel was great, good beds, clean, good and healthy breakfast with fresh fruit and lettuce, tomato, cucumber, two types of cheese, meats, waffels, cereals, etc. There are a lot of homeless people in the first few blocks of Ellis street. As a woman I felt awkard walking home alone at night, but with a friend it was fine. It didn't feel hostile at all, just outnumbered. If you catch a cab home a night (quite cheap) or avoid these first few blocks by taking Geary street and then Hyde or Larkin to the hotel, it's fine.

Really nice hotel for the price. If you dont mind the neighborhood. The shuttle service was great. The rooms were really nice for the price.

Free breakfast, free shuttle to hot spots in SF, free internet, business center, fitness center, etc. This hotel has a lot of amenities but with a reasonable price. CLEAN and BIG room! RECOMMEND IT

This is a pretty great hotel - well designed and the rooftop breakfast restaurant can't be beat. But the neighborhood leaves something to be desired - still a pretty rough part of town.

Really rough late-night check-in with a half-attentive front desk attendant who couldn't seem to get me a working room try (tried 3 times before I requested a different room). Just a really frustrating first impression and other travelers seem to have the same impression.

A bit over priced if you ask me. the rooms are nice but very very small. In a bad part of town. Slow service at the desk.

I liked Cova Hotel San Francisco. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was pleasant, clean and comfortable. The location is in close proximity to Union Square which is good. It was surprisingly quiet at night. The area is an area close to a facility for homeless people which means you see the sadder side of San Fran. It's recommended that you take a particular route if walking in to town etc. This was sound advice and there were no problems. The hotel also offer a regular shuttle to and from the wharf and Union Square which is excellent. The morning breakfast is really good.
