Cartago is a city in Costa Rica, 25 km east of San Jose, the capital of the country. It is famous for its large church, the Basilica de Los Angeles, and the spectacle of the Good Friday Procession in which people dressed as Romans march into the city centre and carry Christ off to the Basilica. Cartago Climate
Although Cartago is in a tropical rainforest, its altitude gives it a milder climate, classified as a tropical wet and dry climate. Average high temperatures peak at 26°C in May and are much the same the rest of the year, dropping to around 24°C in January. There is a fair amount of rainfall, with March and April being the driest months.
Getting There & Around
Juan Santamaria Airport is the nearest international airport and is situated fairly close to the capital San Jose. Buses run regularly from the capital to Cartago and other major cities.
Local buses transport people around the region. They charge reasonable fares and are safe to travel around in.
