Copthorne Orchid Hotel Penang Guest Reviews
Stayed 2 nights in this hotel with my family and the experience was certainly a negative one. Upon arrival, the check in process was slow even though there were many staffs standing around at the reception. Most of the staffs simply stood beside aimlessly as only one of them was processing the checking in for those that were in front of the queue. When it was our turn, I requested for 2 rooms with better view of the sea. Not only was the person who happened also to be the manager on duty that day unpleasant (a lady with shoulder length hair) but she appeared to be uninterested in serving us. Her reply to my request was that only some rooms are entitled to full view of the sea. My booking was entitled only to standard rooms and this mean I could only have partial view of the sea from the balcony. Then, I replied her that I didn't realize that there was a distinction for the 2 different kind of rooms since it was only stated on the website that the rooms I had booked for come with seaviews. From my point of view, this certainly appear to be an act on the part of the hotel to deliberately omit from its customers certain information in order to dupe them into believing that they are getting a better deal. Since I was with my family that day, I decided not to carry on with the conversation and simply agreed to whatever room she was going to give me. When we went up to the rooms, we were again disappointed by the kind of service rendered to us by the hotel. The room not only smelled awful but the furnitures (e.g. bed, sofa) were old and appeared to be dirty. Altogether, everything we have experienced during our stay in the hotel certainly did not live up to the its international brand name. The website does bear some responsibility for this negative experience of ours since it wasn't completely honest with the description of its partner hotel.

First of all, I wanted to highlight that I was given room earlier than expected(chk in time is 2pm) although it's weekend where rooms are all fully booked. The room is clean but furniture is a bit old and the cupboard are kinda dusty. Air condition are cold even at the min point. Management should consider changing it from centralize to individual whereby guest able to select their preferred temperature. The bathroom are clean but theres black mold on the shower curtain. The shower head and faucet are not in proper condition too. There's alot of improvement and upgrading needed. Since it's a 4 star hotel, guest might expecting more from it. But for a short weekend is just ok for a night sleep.

A fair and clean hotel, average value for money. We like it's location as it is on Tanjung Bungah, which is only 5 minutes to Gurney Drive and it has its own private beach.
